How is everyone starting the new year?
Today we are not doing laundry or dishes.
I’m thinking about some audio books, crochet projects and a sewing project for today.
I cleaned the house yesterday, and the animals all got their areas cleaned up the day before so today is for relaxing and planning 2025!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR

What are your 2025 Garden plans and dos and donts? What are you repeating from previous years, and what will you never grow again?
2025 is going to HAVE to be a better garden year than 2024.
I focused way too heavily on things I thought I needed to grow to be self sufficient, than to grow things that make sense.
For example - why did I use an entire bed on carrots? I could have grown more tomatoes and we wouldn’t be out of home grown tomato sauce! Carrots are super cheap, and if it makes you feel better- you can preserve things you buy from local farms too 😉
So here is a list of things I won’t be bothered with this year
🥔 potatoes - I can source the 50 pound bags for $35 locally
🥕carrots - super affordable to buy in bulk from farms
🧅onions - again, super affordable to buy
🌶️ spicy pepper - they made my entire garden hot peppers because they cross pollinate.

Soon I’ll be coming up with my list of things I am definitely growing.

What side quest do you have going?

Mine is rendering pork fat, and dehydrating some things.
I made some cranberry powder and I need some ideas for what to do next 🙂

Had to break in my new 22qt Turkey roaster with roughly 20 pounds of lard ♥️
I’m rendering this in the basement because the smell is a little off putting 🤣
What do you use your lard for once rendered???
Ps I’m feeling very shadow banned now that I have been able to get back into this page 😳

Bee keeping friends!

I have a perfect area to set up a little bee station back behind our gardens. However, I have never raised bees.
I’m stuck between buying this, which seems like it would be super beginner friendly OR going with something way less expensive since I am a beginner.
What do you suggest?!

Tomorrow I have the day off, and I’m going to spend it rendering down this lot of pig fat & the small bag of deer fat!
How do you store yours!?
I’m debating on doing some in ice cube trays with seasonings, some stored in mason jars on the shelf, and some frozen in freezer safe jars.
So many options!
♥️♥️♥️
