This weekend, I embraced the festive spirit at Montmorillon’s charming Christmas market! 🎄✨ With help from the nearby town of Chauvigny, the market was bigger and better than ever, filled with holiday cheer and local delights. A cozy stroll with a cup of mulled wine in hand led to some delicious finds: a beautiful bottle of Cognac and an intriguing walnut wine – perfect for celebrating the season in true French style. 🥂🎁 Who else loves discovering unique local specialties at Christmas markets?

I had an amazing experience talking to the wonderful Rick Steves from Rick Steves' Europe about all things French food and the way the French eat during their day. There is also some great talks with Dutch tour guides Jody van Engelsdorp and Ellen Janzing about food in the Netherlands, Jorge Román and Francisco Glária from the Spanish Loops podcast about food in Spain and Pål Johansen about Norwegian food.

🎃 Halloween in Montmorillon means pumpkin soup for the community! Though I can’t be there to join in this year (I’m in Paris to see the amazing London Grammar!), I was thrilled to make a big batch of soup to help bring the Halloween spirit to everyone.

A huge thank you to the lovely ladies from the local retirement village who pitched in, sharing their wisdom and laughter while we cooked up this autumnal treat together. Wishing everyone in Montmorillon a cozy, festive Halloween! 🍂🧡

🍏Cheers to Calvados Day!🍏

Today I’m raising my glass to one of Normandy’s finest treasures—Calvados! This apple-based brandy is truly something special, with its rich flavors and warming spirit. Whether you’re sipping it neat, enjoying it in a cocktail, or using it to add a little extra something to your cooking, Calvados is the perfect way to celebrate autumn in France. 🍂🍎

Distilled from apples (and sometimes pears!) grown in Normandy’s orchards, Calvados is aged to perfection, capturing the essence of the region in every sip. Its versatility is what I love most—it’s as at home in a refined after-dinner drink as it is in a cozy fireside moment. And on Calvados Day, there’s no better excuse to indulge in a glass or two! 🥃✨

If you’ve never tried it before, now’s the perfect time to discover this iconic French spirit. And if you’re already a fan, let me know your favorite way to enjoy it in the comments! How are you celebrating Calvados Day today? 🍏🥂

🎄Feeding the Christmas Cake!🎄

It’s that magical time of the week again! Five weeks ago, I baked this beautiful fruit cake, and every week since, I’ve been feeding it a tablespoon of cognac. This tradition is one of my favorite parts of the holiday season, keeping the cake moist and full of flavor until it’s ready for marzipan just before Christmas. Each time I do it, I get a little more excited for the festivities to come! 🎅✨

I absolutely love Christmas, especially here in France. There’s something about the charm of a French village at Christmas time—the twinkling lights, festive markets, and the warmth of shared food—that makes it extra special. This weekly ritual of feeding the cake feels like my own personal countdown to the big day, and it’s just as thrilling as any advent calendar. Every spoonful of cognac is a little reminder of the joy that’s just around the corner. 🎁

Whether you’re baking your own Christmas cake or simply indulging in holiday treats, these little moments of preparation are what make the season so wonderful. What are your favorite holiday traditions? Let me know in the comments, and stay tuned as this cake gets closer to its grand debut! 🎂✨

Moules Frites: French or Belgian?

One of my all-time favorite dishes—Moules Frites! 🦪🍟 But here’s the question: is this classic combo French or Belgian? 🇫🇷🇧🇪

Fresh, tender mussels served with crispy golden fries—simple, yet so satisfying. Whether you’re sitting in a French bistro or a Belgian brasserie, this dish is a must-have for any seafood lover. 🌊✨

So, what do you think? Is Moules Frites a French creation, or does Belgium hold the claim to this delicious duo? Let me know in the comments! 👇
