Warning…..Plenty of photos coming.

We spent the day exploring Longreach and visited the Qantas museum.

The only thing is, the pricing for the museum was a little exorbitant. It was $120 for a family to do a self guided tour of the museum. We then had to pay another $35 each (260 in total) to join a tour and check out the actual planes. I honestly would have been happy to pay $120 for the whole lot. We felt $120 for just the museum was over the top and not really justified.

We left Longreach and made our way to Barcaldine to our free camp. Barcaldine has the most magnificent sculpture to commemorate the “tree of knowledge and the great shearer strike. I was channeling the tree to help me out 🤣

We made our way to Normanton with a stop at Croydon.

Croydon was as a quiet little town with the best hot chips ever as voted by one member of Roaming Bullys (Evie). A little food truck next to where we got diesel was selling them so we had to try them.

We got to Normanton and unhitched the van at the RV free camp before heading back into town. We walked the town and had a beer at the Purple Pub which was pretty cool. The kids got a photo with Krys, the largest ever recorded crocodile at 8.63m.

We sat by the river and enjoyed a couple of drinks while looking for crocs and watching the spectacular sunset.

What an excellent couple of days!!

We visited the Undara Lava Tubes and did a tour. This was a fantastic experience. Realising there is 164 volcanoes in the area and how the lava tubes were formed.

We decided to make the trip to Copperfield Gorge and then on to Cobbald Gorge. Copperfield Gorge was a fantastic! It was crated from the lava of an active volcano thousands of years ago.

We set up at a free camp at Cumberland Chimney free camp for the night.

We left Mareeba and with no real direction headed towards Mt Garnet. We saw a sign for Millstream falls so we took the turn off and had a look around.

We left there and made the short trip to Innot Springs. We had a walk in the creek and almost got 3rd degree burns in one spot, it was so bloody hot.

We travelled another hour down the road where we set up in forty mile scrub rest free camp for the night. Had a few beers, a fire, charcuterie and watched the footy. A good day/night was had!!
