One month with Meru 🌼

We keep calling her our little angel dog. The one that pulled us up and made us smile again.
She’s only been with us a few weeks, but it feels like she’s been part of our story forever

We didn’t used to believe that our dogs would send our next dog to us, like everyone says. But then we met her.

We walked into an animal shelter just a few miles from where we were camped, hoping to volunteer and walk a few dogs. We weren’t expecting a connection. Nothing deep at least. A way to be near dogs again, and to give back in honor of the incredible years we shared with Missy and Trip.

Meru (may-roo) is the strangest mix of both their personalities—something we still have a hard time explaining, and it’s honestly kind of unbelievable. But when you’re with her, you feel it.

After our second walk with her, we brought her back to the shelter and sat in the truck for a moment. I whispered, “It feels like we need her just as much as she needs us.”

Healing on both sides.

She’s been surrendered twice to the same shelter.
And we’ve lost two of the greatest loves of our lives.

We fostered her over the weekend, and by Sunday morning, we had officially adopted her. We said we would wait a few years before opening our hearts back up to another dog, but I know these moments are rarely planned.

Deep down we know Missy and Trip would want us to keep rescuing dogs. To give more dogs the life we gave them. They both would have loved Meru. She has some pretty big paws to fill 💕

If you’re able and have the time and patience, please consider rescuing, volunteering, or spending time with animals waiting for a second chance (or third chance). They need good people to keep rescuing and believing in them.
