The Unheard Ones "Stories and Songs" LP is out now!

❤️ Blending indie-punk urgency with the depth and experimentation of 1990s emo, this retrospective compendium captures The Unheard Ones’ ability to balance tension and melody, shifting between the dissonant and the bittersweet. Tim Kabara’s expressive vocals and textural guitar work meet Lisa Starace’s melodic bass lines and Eli Jones’s dynamic drumming, creating songs that capture the loneliness of a closed bowling alley with a broken fluorescent light blinking in the early morning hours.

🔴 Limited to 500 copies on opaque red vinyl and housed in a four-color printed chipboard jacket that echoes the era. A 32-page zine-style booklet accompanies the record, packed with archival ephemera, flyers, photos, and writing contributions. Digital download includes three bonus live tracks, a practice recording, a Joy Division cover, and a PDF of the booklet.

Swung by my friendly neighborhood pressing plant to watch 30-year-old recordings get immortalized into magical platters of sound. Also got to listen to a newly minted slab of vinyl, which was not unlike the first sip of a cold carbonated beverage. Eternal gratitude to Furnace Record Pressing for helping bring these lost recordings to light!

“Stories and Songs” remastered collection from The Unheard Ones drops 9/18 on Handstand Records

Baltimore emo trio The Unheard Ones bring lost 1990s recordings to light with Stories and Songs — a collection of previously unreleased studio and demo recordings, out September 18 on Handstand Records. 📼

Their run lasted just two years (1995–1997), sharing stages with scene legends like the Great Unraveling, Plunger, Harriet the Spy, Monorchid, and the Crownhate Ruin.

The recordings languished for nearly three decades until Colin Seven (Universal Order of Armageddon) championed the release, connecting Handstand with surviving members Tim Kabara and Lisa Starace, marking the first time all seven studio recordings have been collected together.

The album honors late drummer Eli Jones, with proceeds benefiting MusiCares.

The Unheard Ones were a mid-90s emo trio whose brief but bright existence left a lasting mark on the fortunate few who witnessed them live. Baltimore City Paper posthumously described their self-titled EP as a "ménage à trois of feeling, force, and fragility." However, their studio and demo recordings have largely remained… well, unheard for the past 30 years.

That’s about to change, thanks to Colin Seven from Universal Order of Armageddon who tirelessly championed a reissue, and acted as matchmaker between DIY label Handstand Records and the surviving band members. Vocalist/guitarist Tim Kabara and bassist Lisa Starace have unearthed a well of stories and songs to assemble a reissue tribute to the late drummer Eli Jones, coming this summer.

"Who’ll be the first to litter on Mars?" 🔴 Veteran DC punk band The Goons are back with a brand new 4-song 7” that is as good as, if not better than, their last material from 2006. Recorded by Don Zientara in the legendary Inner Ear Studios basement and pressed by the fine folks at Furnace on Martian red vinyl.

FUN FACT: My old punk band was supposed to play with back in ‘98, but our set was abruptly cut short after we got in a fight with some skinheads and the show got shut down.
