SHIBUYUNJI TOWN COUNCIL HOSTS IMPLEMENTATION TRAINING ON CASH FOR WORK INITIATIVE
In a significant move to address the effects of the recent drought disaster, Shibuyunji Town Council held an implementation training session for the Cash for Work program.
The training, aimed at equipping participants with the necessary knowledge to carry out the initiative, was facilitated by the Council's Director Planning , Mr. Connivah Muntengwa, Director Engineering , Mr. Abraham Lyanda, and Accountant, Mr. Ebby Mwaka.
The Cash for Work program is designed as a short-term intervention to provide financial relief to communities impacted by last season's drought, which severely affected agricultural production.
Participants in the program will engage in various community service activities, earning K60 per day over a period of 10 days, amounting to K600 for the duration of the program.
The training session was well-attended, with notable figures such as the Council Chairperson, Mr. Adrian Mwanakayemba, the area Member of Parliament, Mr. Machila Jamba, the District Commissioner, Mr. Alfred Shaputu,the Council Secretary Dr. Mwape M. Katemwe, Area Councillors, Ward Development Committees, and officers from Social Welfare, among others.
Speaking during the event, Mr. Adrian Mwanakayemba emphasised the government's commitment to ensuring that no Zambian is left hungry during these challenging times. He revealed that Shibuyunji Town Council had received K550,491.03 for the Cash for Work initiative, funds that will be directed towards supporting the most affected communities.
"This program is a clear reflection of our government's dedication to supporting its people. I urge all participants to take this opportunity seriously, work diligently, and make the most of the resources provided," said Mr. Mwanakayemba.
District Commissioner Mr. Alfred Shaputu also addressed the gathering, urging councillors and other stakeholders to ensure that the funds are utilised as intended, reaching the people who need them the most.
Participants in the Cash for Work program are expected to engage in various tasks, including road maintenance, cleaning and clearing of public spaces, and digging, among other essential community services.
The initiative not only provides a financial boost to those affected by the drought but also contributes to the upkeep and development of the district’s infrastructure.
The training marks the beginning of an initiative that promises to bring much-needed relief to the people of Shibuyunji, showcasing the district’s proactive approach to disaster response and community support.
