It’s been helluva week…in the best way possible. From seeing our book at bookstores nationwide to being tagged by everyone who pre-ordered and got their books on pub day! As first time authors, we really didn’t know what to expect. My anxiety has been through the roof - my dentist pointed out a few cracked teeth from grinding more than usual! But damn worth it for this experience I’ll savor for a lifetime. We did it ! We have a book out in the universe! 👏 👏 👏

To think, it all started with a little podcast we recorded out of my studio apartment. 🌱

I came, I saw, I ate, I fell.

Don’t cry for me Argentina as I hobbled around, in search of the best 🥩 🥩 🥩. At least I got to play padel before I fell. I say that’s a win-win!

Fallin’ for Tallinn…

Believe it or not, I’ve always wanted to visit Estonia and finally found an excuse to do so - University! Some highlights:

- the star of the city, Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is surreal. I felt instantly transported back in time.
- but Tallinn is so much more than Old Town! I stayed near the water in Noblessner, a peaceful and modern neighborhood that strongly contrasts the hustle and bustle of Old Town.
- the food scene OMG! Some of the most innovative, global cuisine I’ve tasted. I highly recommend Farm as a great representation of modern Estonian dishes. Then juxtapose that with Olde Hansa, often referred to as the most authentic medieval dining experience.
- walking around Telliskivi Creative City was reminiscent of a much cleaner and safer Brooklyn or Berlin, yet with the same flow of creative energy. Not to be missed!
- finding remnants of the Soviet Union everywhere including the KGB office on a secret floor of Hotel Viru and the gorgeous Russian Orthodox Church that still stands prominently in the middle of Old Town.
- the architecture! I loved seeing streets lined with traditional wooden houses on one side and then modern glass buildings on the other.
- I fell in love with a self-service tennis court (Franz Krulli Tennisemajah, everything was automated without ever needing to see a human (that’s my type!).

Last but not least, immense gratitude for a soul-changing experience at MindValley University. It was confronting yet transformational. I would describe it as having the enterprising elements of SXSW, the awakening of Burning Man (I’m only assuming), and the heart-opening effects of a yoga retreat. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I went to HEL and loved it. 🔥

Wow, Helsinki is totally underrated. I thought 7 days may be too long and I wish I had more time! An expat described Finland as the Japan of Europe - it’s safe, clean, orderly, tech-forward, and a whole lot of quirky. Here are my highlights:

- discovering all the public art and sculptures throughout the city.
- having the most delicious reindeer steak at Restaurant Savotta.
- strolling through peaceful Suomenlinna, a sea fortress that was built to defend Sweden, then Russia, then Finland.
- staying in a glass igloo (which deserves its own post).
- enjoying late tennis sessions before the sun sets at 10:30pm.
- trying bear for the first time!
- playing on a clay court for the first time at the beautiful Kalastajatorpan tennis club, surrounded by a forest.
- enjoying a famous Finnish sauna experience at Loyly, taking dips in the Baltic Sea in between saunas.
- learning about Moomins (IYKYK) and how obsessive Finns get about collecting their mugs.
- trying salted licorice!

The Finns are so fascinating to me
…they don’t believe in small talk (which I love!)
…they’re extremely proud of Finnish brands and products (Moomins, Marimekko)
…they love their sauna so much they put one on a Ferris wheel
…their newborns sleep in a box, provided by the government
…they believe in trying before buying when it comes to relationships - so many have children together first before they decide to marry (or not!)

With that, I’d definitely go back to HEL again!

Modern dating is unprecedented; we are not in it to survive, we are in it for love. As we’re living longer, our relationships require more thought and purpose. (Can we really grow and evolve together?) And then, there’s the added complexity of growing up Asian, where dating and relationships were rarely discussed. One minute, our parents forbid us to date, and suddenly, they’re dropping hints about grandkids, completely skipping over the essential part of falling in love. It’s no wonder so many of us feel a little lost. But the good(ish) news is: nobody has dating figure out.

Thank you for the provocative, introspective and thoughtful conversation and . This episode of is now out!

Also thank you for making this happen 🙏🏼🙏🏼

Every visit to Beijing, my motherland, leaves me with a mix of emotions—a smile and a stomachache. The city’s intriguing paradoxes are both bewildering and amusing:

🤔Young individuals eagerly await marriage to move away from their parents, yet after having kids, they invite their parents to live with them.

😷During Covid, masks were mandatory, yet the air was ridiculously clean. Now, due to the return of traffic and factories, masks are essential due to heavy pollution.

🫣There’s virtually no crime thanks to surveillance cameras everywhere, yet citizens have no freedom or privacy.

🤐Despite political unrest, an influx of Michelin star restaurants suddenly emerged. What a nice distraction!

🙃The cityscape offers striking contrasts: from living in a dumpster (see 9th photo) to breathtaking views (see last photo), both just right across the street from each other.

I will still forever love Beijing, the city that shaped the foundation of my identity 🇨🇳
