Here’s the first part of my interview with Dhol Tuason from Richmond, VA.

Dhol Tuason is a Filipino-American cultural advocate, artistic director, cancer survivor, and founder of Sayaw Diversity, a volunteer-run dance company she established in 2017. Through dance, she has dedicated herself to promoting the beauty, diversity, and rich traditions of Filipino culture while inspiring audiences across the United States.

As the Artistic Director of Sayaw Diversity, Dhol has led performances that celebrate the Philippines’ many regions through both traditional and contemporary dance. Her vision is not only to preserve Filipino heritage but also to mentor young performers, encourage cultural pride, and use the arts to support social causes.

One of her most significant accomplishments is Pamana, an acclaimed Filipino cultural production that has become one of Virginia’s largest and most comprehensive showcases of Philippine arts and culture. The production highlights the traditions, music, costumes, and dances representing the country’s many islands, bringing Filipino history and identity to life for audiences of all backgrounds.

Beyond the stage, Dhol is a cancer survivor whose journey has strengthened her faith, resilience, and desire to give back. Her personal experience has inspired her to encourage others facing cancer, proving that life continues beyond a diagnosis and that every challenge can become a source of strength.

Dhol uses both her voice and her talents to raise awareness, inspire hope, and support cancer patients and their families. She believes that culture, compassion, and community have the power to heal and unite people.

Here’s the second part of our interview with Maria Victoria Ginter from New York.

Maria Victoria Ginter, is the first-ever Mrs. Philippines New York 2025. She is a breast cancer advocate, healthcare professional, and runway model who believes that true beauty is found in serving others. She was born and raised in Cebu City, Philippines.

Maria is happily married to a retired U.S. military veteran. Their love story began through her cousin, who met him online and introduced them to each other. Today, they live in upstate New York, where Maria works as a hospital billing encoder while continuing her volunteer work in the community.

As Mrs. Philippines New York 2025, Maria completed 25 community service and outreach projects in both the United States and the Philippines. She also raised more than $5,000 to help provide treatment for six breast cancer patients in the Philippines. Her advocacy has taken her to underserved communities, veterans’ events, feeding programs, schools for children with special needs, and shelters for women and children.

Maria is also making her mark in the fashion world, having walked at New York Fashion Week and Paris Fashion Week, with Milan Fashion Week coming next. No matter where life takes her, she continues to use her voice and her platform to inspire others, give hope to cancer patients, and proudly represent the Filipino community.

Today, we’re excited to hear more about her inspiring journey, her advocacy, and the experiences that have shaped her life here in America.

Here’s our interview with Jade Edward Gejon Duran represented Team Philippines at the 2026 World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) in the United States, where he won a Gold Medal and advanced to the semifinals in the vocal competition which was held in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, from July 13–21, 2026.

Jade Edward Gejon Duran is a singer, songwriter, and producer from Brgy. Ochando, New Washington, Aklan, Philippines.

His love for music started at the age of 4 after his aunt taught him how to sing, and his parents made him do piano and voice lessons.

As the years passed by, Jade also picked up how to play other instruments such as the guitar, and bass. He also started writing and producing his own songs.

After graduating college in Central Philippine University in Iloilo with a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology back in 2019, Jade’s pursue with music was an on and off situation since he was focused on work.

Fast-forward to September 2025, Jade was scrolling on Facebook when he saw WCOPA Team Philippines holding auditions in a mall near where he was living and decided to give it a shot. The rest was history after that.

Here’s second first part of our interview with John Irish Gonzales Lira. John was born and raised in Cavite, Philippines. He is a Filipino educator, researcher, and mathematics specialist based in Roanoke, Virginia. He has built a career in teaching, educational research, and community service in both the Philippines and the United States.

He is currently a Mathematics Teacher in Roanoke, Virginia, where he teaches math and works to improve student learning and achievement. He earned a Ph.D. in Mathematics Education from Centro Escolar University in Manila. He also holds graduate and undergraduate degrees in mathematics education from the Philippine Normal University.

Before moving to the United States, he spent many years teaching and conducting educational research in the Philippines. His work includes published studies on mathematics education, teacher development, educational technology, and assessment. He has presented research at academic conferences in the U.S. and internationally and remains active in educational and research organizations.

Beyond education, he is active in the Filipino-American community in Virginia, participating in cultural, civic, and faith-based activities. His public posts show involvement with the Virginia Asian Advisory Board, the Archdiocese of Richmond’s ethnic ministries, and Filipino community events.

Here’s the second part of our interview with Filipino-American cancer warrior, Theresa Jay Rubi from Albany, New York.
No one expects to hear the words, “You have Stage 4 breast cancer,” at 31 years old.

For Theresa Jay Rubi, that moment changed everything. The cancer had already spread to her bones.

Many people know Theresa from a happier time. In 2024, she walked the runway as one of the Filipino American Cancer Care Fashion for Compassion models, wearing the designs of Carl Andrada. Today, she is opening her heart as a young woman ready to share her cancer journey for the first time.

Theresa is the eldest in her family. She was born in Zambales to parents whose roots are from Northern and Southern Philippines. Her mother has spent years caring for cancer patients as an oncology nurse. No family ever imagines that one day, cancer will come knocking at their own door.

A trained scientist, Theresa graduated cm laude with a degree in Biological Sciences before earning her Master of Public Health with high honors from the University of Southern California. She has always believed in improving people’s lives through science and public health, and her policy work helped lead to the passage of California Senate Bill 852.

Today, Theresa is facing a different challenge. She is fighting Stage 4 breast cancer with courage, faith, and hope. This is the story of a young woman whose dreams were interrupted but whose spirit refuses to give up.

Here’s the second part of my interview with Herman Martir from Dallas, Texas. Herman Martir is an Ilonggo who was born and raised in Bacolod City. He is a community leader, organizer, and advocate known for his work in civic engagement, leadership development, and community revitalization.

He founded Asian Action Network, an organization that connects and mobilizes thousands of faith-based, business, and community groups to promote public service, civic participation, and social justice for Asian American and Pacific Islander communities. He also founded Emerging Leaders International, which helps develop leadership skills among business owners, faith leaders, and civic organizations.

Herman Martir is currently serving as a commissioner for Asian American and Pacific Islander initiatives under the administration of Donald Trump. He is recognized for bringing together diverse leaders, supporting minority representation, encouraging entrepreneurship, and helping communities grow and thrive.
