Notes From the Underground Notes From the Underground regularly focuses on bringing in guests from the local community. Past shows have included reiki practitioners who perform hands-on healing for emotional and physical problems, local San Diego celebrities such as Bolt Man, who was the San Diego Charger’s unofficial mascot at every game, and gun store owners who have shared their thoughts about gun control on both a national level and as a citywide issue.
Every show also includes commentary from our cannabis expert, Kristen Yoder, who updates listeners with legal and scientific issues surrounding cannabis legalization in the country, especially in Southern California. Dane Henderson also regularly talks about the video game industry, sharing his work with autistic children and how many autistic kids are involved in video games as both a form of therapy and a means of supporting themselves as professional gamers. By discussing the emotional and psychological aspects of autism and its effect on children, Notes From the Underground has been helping a local autism support group called The Autism Project, through sponsoring video gaming tournaments.
Jody Taylor and Wally Wang bring their own perspective on local issues through talking with guests running for political office in San Diego. By giving all candidates, not just the major ones, air time, our show has provided the community with a chance to hear every candidate’s voice, not just those with the most money. Our show has also interviewed a member of the Mormon community to learn more about the Mormon community in San Diego and their challenges in our city.
We have also invited members of the Eritrea community to speak about their country and their culture. Since the Eritrea community forms a large part of City Heights (the area where KNSJ’s studio is located), we spent much time discussing the history of Eritrea and the issues of the Eritrean community integrating into San Diego.
