Nepali media and Nepal’s “macho hill nationalism” just can’t seem to catch a break.
Two weeks ago, it was the sidelining of Dr. Sangeeta Mishra as Health Minister over “controversial claims”, and now it’s the relentless attacks on the young climate activist and filmmaker Tashi Lhazom from Humla, who was reportedly being considered for a seat in the cabinet. Despite their impressive resumes, awards and accolades,—Mishra, a Madhesi woman with a naturalised Nepali citizenship and Lhazom a resident of Humla—both women have been deemed unfit for the roles, because they’ve failed the ultimate Nepalipan test.
