The storm moving through northern Seneca has a history of producing hail. Report of golf ball sized hail nr Geneva with estimated winds of 60 mph and a 15 degree temperature drop. It is moving east at 30 mph. SYR is currently 81 with a dew point of 70! Parts of central New York are being monitored for a Severe Thunderstorm Watch. Doesn't mean we will definitely get a watch but be on alert for severe weather as the radar is showing already.

The snow from earlier in the week has bumped up the seasonal snow totals over parts of central New York. I certainly hope this is the last time I will have to update this map for the season.

Not only was today's snowfall in Syracuse a record for the date (old record was 1.4" on April 2nd 1991) but it was also a record for the most snow on any April day EVER going back to the start of records in Syracuse. With more snow falling tonight we will add to this total. This is certainly not a record we want to have. The good news is that lake effect snow will finally end tomorrow morning and we return to more typical April weather by Thursday.

(9:30 pm Monday April 1st) In spite of our perception, this past month was not one of the coldest Marches on record in Syracuse. The numbers say it was far from it.

(9:00 pm Friday March 29th) While there still is some chilly air to deal with next week, there are signs beyond that Spring could finally be getting a jump start here in central New York.

It may still be too cool for your liking but we've actually seen an improvement in the temperatures across central New York over the last week. Last week (Monday-Friday) our average high in Syracuse was in the mid 30s but this week (so far) we are about 10 degrees warmer. Here's to small victories!

28/03/2013

(9:00 pm Wednesday March 27th) Cool weather has been the norm the past two weeks here in central New York but some of the numbers don't back that up. We may not even end up in the top 20 of coldest Marches on record.
