Today is Trans Day of Visibility, but for us at She They Press Play, celebrating trans people is every day, because two-thirds of us are trans, and uplifting our community is at the core of what we do.

Want to show support? Here’s how:
✨ Use the right pronouns - respect is free. Don't know? Ask! Made a mistake? Just say sorry, move on and do better next time.
✨ Listen to and amplify trans voices, let trans people speak about trans issues rather than speaking for them.
✨ Book, play, and support trans artists - this goes not only for DJs and bands but crew, sound engineers and venue staff.
✨ Consume media by trans creators - there are loads of playlists on Spotify of trans artists. Drop your favs in the comments!
✨ Donate to trans charities.
✨ Vote against trans exclusionary policies, and join and support us in protests.

Visibility matters, but action saves lives. Keep showing up. 🏳️‍⚧

Seeing Courtney LaPlante from Spiritbox mistaken for Poppy on the Grammys red carpet is frustrating, but sadly, not surprising. Women and gender minorities in alternative music are constantly treated as interchangeable, no matter how distinct their sound, style, or accomplishments are.

This kind of lazy, dismissive coverage reinforces the idea that there’s only room for a handful of non-male artists in heavy music - and that their individuality doesn’t matter. It’s the same attitude that leads to festivals booking the same token female-fronted bands, or journalists asking women about their outfits instead of their musicianship.

This is exactly why She They Press Play exists. Representation isn’t just about visibility - it’s about being recognised for who you are and what you bring to the scene. We champion women and gender-diverse DJs because we know firsthand how often non-male artists are overlooked, underbooked, or treated as novelties.

The alternative music industry has to do better. Give these artists the respect they deserve.
