After a long and challenging journey, The Mould Mag Chronicles is finally available!

This is the final update regarding the long-awaited release of The Mould Mag Chronicles.
After a long delay, we can finally announce that the book is in its final stages of production and we´ll start shipping all orders during middle of April.
To those who have been waiting patiently, we would like to offer our deepest apologies and our sincere gratitude. 2024 and 2025 have been quite difficult years for several reasons, but we are finally moving in the right direction again.

About the book: A short-lived yet classic fanzine, Mould released its first issue in 1990, and featured among its pages interviews with Entombed, Grave, Necrophobic, Sweden’s Grotesque, and Finland’s Abhorrence among others–a veritable time capsule of this pioneering era of extreme metal. Helmed by Karlsson–who was drumming for Sweden’s Suffer at the time and would go on to have a prolific drumming career, which continues to this day, for the likes of In Aeternum, Nominon, and Destroyer666 among many others – Mould would continue for three more issues over the next few years, featuring in its pages the likes of Bolt Thrower, Dissection, Cynic, Deicide, Mortician, Vital Remains, Sadus, Macabre, Nocturnus, Disembowelment, Convulse, Deceased, Sweden’s Merciless, America’s Baphomet, and Rottrevore among many, MANY others as well as hundreds upon HUNDREDS of reviews. A crucial document of the burgeoning death metal movement, Mould was part of the lifeline – namely, fanzines and tape trading – that would help spread this movement and its influence worldwide, and this book collects all four issues in their entirety. Also included are recollections of the era by the author himself as well as members of Grave, Entombed, Sweden’s Toxaemia, and other members of the early Scandinavian death metal scene.

Completing the era-authentic documentation is a two-song 7” featuring previously unreleased demo recordings from Sweden’s cult CREMATORY only available in the first 300 copies of the book on red & black vinyl.

Couple of later after the release of #41, so soon came #42.

Layout-wise the same like previous issue. And so does the content like before start the interview, there are short info (the band's name, genre, country, interviewee, interview date).

In glossy paper for the cover. All in black and white. The pages are numbered, no table of content, cut n paste style, type writer font style. Questions less than 20. 16 on average. Questions are about current music/releases, lyric/theme of the band, history.

Gorgon is the best 16 answers in this zine. The other are OK too.

The reviews cover music only. They are not rated and not alphabetically arranged. Less than 20 reviews and that's the end of this zine. The layout here is in 2 columns per page, some with page border and using the type writer font type. The old school-look still present.

Flip on the other side, the other half is the Portuguese version of the magazine of the same bands. Not sure the content the same or not (just like the previous issue) but I believe they are translation in this language.

I saw some question in English section was not translated to English. Why?

I was curious on why Sonneillon add 'Black Metal' to its name. But this was not asked in the interview. Might be there is a Sonneillon Death Metal out there.

Hand numbered 72 of 200. My copy of issue #41 was 70/200. That was close number.

"See You in Hell", section of band's line-up that has died recently. It's a regular feature.

Our own martyr Nighcrawler and Zen are in the pages as well. Rest in Power my brothers!!!

This is not the first issue of Zine Death Metal. My first encounter is with the 'Female metal tribute' issue (issue #37) which I will talk about it in another post.

In June 2021 celebrated their 13 years in existence. 13 a good number is it? And came out #41.

About this zine, half of the zine is English. After reaching the centerfold, flip it and there's the same band & content/layout in Portuguese in the other half. Interesting concept but you are paying for the other half that you can't read (or read it in English).

The layout is in cut n paste style using old type writer font. The pages numbered but no table of content.

Before the start of the interview, there's no introduction but there are some notes (band name, genre, country, interviewee, date of the interview & band's contact address or email).

Questions are around 13 to 15. The topics are mostly on music. Answers by the band are very long. I think the original one was made 'live' in Portuguese (to the bands from that region) than translated to English.

Torturer is from Canada, not the one from Chile. So take note on this.

In review section the layout different. Its in white background with page border. The reviews are not rated and not alphabetically arranged.

There is a section called "See You in Hell". In this section is about band's line-up that has died recently. Not sure whether this is a regular section but it is a first time me seeing this.

My copy is hand numbered 70 of 200.

I bought couple more issues until in issue... (I don't remember which issue now) where the editor mentioned there are some issues with the postal services (or whatever, that is beyond his control).

He apologies but I haven't get that issue. I stop buying afterwards.

Primitive Future #1 (2018)
36 pages, A5, pro-printed

I don't remember how I discover this publication but gladly I did. And it is coming from my neighboring country, Indonesia! Killer!!! The first of its kind I encountered from this country.

32 pages featuring plenty of sinister artworks and some are unpublished yet at the time. 1 page 1 artwork in black & white. Except on the center page of the zine, it shows a full A4 size drawing.

Not sure how to review this. Other artzine I had also have some interview articles in it. "Primitive Future" only feature artworks. The artworks mostly are into "death metal" type of drawings.

Should I say this is pro-printed? The light yellow paper used and the smell of the ink reminds me of the exam papers when I was in primary school in late 80's. Not sure what type of printing method this is.

The first zine from Serbia in Bloodstained Vision!

The content is packed. Very small font size. Some OK size (for me) but some using size 9 maybe and some even smaller than that.

Pages not numbered, and no table of content. The layout 1 column per page with either background image, or page border or just plain grey background.

Music reviews section is called "Bleeding Ears". The format being reviewed is not mention. They are alphabetically arranged but not rated.

Zine reviews section is named "Papyrus Containing the Spell..." however this is only 1 page. They are not alphabetically arranged and not rated.

Some interviews were done in Serbian and translated to English by the help of his close comrade.

Moloch and Sakramentum, the interview with picture in the middle is a bit annoying since it divide the interview and hard to read. Better use columns for such layout.

Date of the interview is mentioned on the intro. Interviews will end with the band's email, website or contract address.

Questions are vary. Some interviews with more than 20 questions. Annathema and Bombarder interviews done with several of the band members. Interesting read.

There's sometimes empty space, can be more than half page after the interview ends. But it doesn't look empty though, maybe because of the dark tone. If it is white, it will be noticeable empty. Wow. I learnt new thing here.

Some Serbian or former Yugoslavia bands here. Would like to check on Kuga, Nadimac, Putrid Blood, Heller, those thrash metal bands in the future.

I thought the man on the front page is the editor since no info on the editorial. But then, who put his own face on his own zine?

Editor; Vidoje Muric, did a good job for this debut issue. He had previous zine project was called "Akrep" that is dedicated to Serbian scene but written in English.

The editor mentioned for the next issue print will be printed on recycle paper (for cost saving?), and will focus on pagan/folk music, heavy and death metal scene.

Fiesta Metalogue (May 2021)

The second book from Abd Aziz Itar. Managed to buy this at its first print run.

Written in Malay. This is a soft cover book, the pages in glossy paper and only this one version available.

The first one is "Ribut Dari Timur". You can search this site for some info.

Now he have table of content which is needed since this time he is writing about his experience going to metal music festivals around the world.

There are only 8 chapters with 1 chapter per festival so means only 8 festivals that we going to read in this book.

He described the atmosphere around festivals, their journey to the venue, short chat with people there. Not to mentioned lots of pictures from the venues.
He's sarcastic, put some humor on the caption of the pictures. At the end of the chapter, he summarized it and gave his rating. Some festivals he went more than once. This is how the chapters look like.

Layout-wise this is much better unlike the previous book which now has colored background. Not just plain white like normal (boring) book.
