Italian singer-songwriter Laura will be among the headline acts at the opening ceremony of the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Games next month, organisers said.

US pop star to perform at Winter Olympics opening ceremony in Milan.

Global music icon Mariah Carey is the first major performer confirmed for the opening ceremony of the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games, organisers said on Monday.

Carey, famed for international hits such as One Sweet Day and All I Want for Christmas is You, will perform at the Olympics Games opening ceremony at Milan’s San Siro soccer stadium on 6 February.

Woman sped off down Grand Canal with stolen boat full of packages before losing control and crashing in front of shocked onlookers.

A woman was arrested in Venice on Thursday after she stole a boat packed full of parcels and sped off down the Grand Canal before crashing at the foot of the Rialto Bridge.

Tourists captured footage of the bizarre incident which occurred after employees of a shipping company moored the boat on the opposite side of the canal, outside the audit court, according to news outlet La Nuova Venezia.

Market opens the week of celebrations for Milan’s patron saint Ambrogio.

For eight centuries, Oh Bej! Oh Bej! has been Milan’s favourite way to open the Christmas festivities and the week dedicated to the city’s patron St Ambrose.

The 2025 edition of Oh Bej! Oh Bej! takes place from 5-8 December, ahead of festivities for Sant’Ambrogio on 7 December, a public holiday in Milan.

Labour court orders La Scala to compensate the usher who shouted ‘Free Palestine’ when Meloni entered the theatre.

Milan’s La Scala opera house has been ordered to compensate an usher who was fired in May after shouting ‘Free Palestine’ while on duty during a visit by Italy’s prime minister Giorgia Meloni, the CUB trade union said on Thursday.

The union said the labour court confirmed that it was “a political dismissal” and ordered the opera house to pay the usher’s salary from the day she was fired until the end of her fixed-term contract, in addition to her legal costs.

An Italian man who collected his dead mother’s pension for three years was exposed after he dressed up as the deceased woman to renew her identity card, police said on Thursday.

Milan Struggles to Fill Technical Jobs While Recruiting for “Modeles and Creatives”

In a surprising twist, a Milan based facility management company is desperately seeking electricians, plumbers and other technical workers, offering salaries up to €2,700 per month, yet claims it can’t find any applicants. The controversial phrase “only models and creatives in Milan” has echoed across its job ads, sparking a debate about young people’s career preferences and labour shortages.

The advertisements, placed on city trams, were launched by Saverio Cutrullà, founder of Save Group, and call for more than 30 positions across the company’s Northern Italian operations. Cutrullà says his group, active in “circular economy” oriented building maintenance, needs skilled technicians to fill roles from electricians and plumbers to project managers, with pay starting around €1,800 and going up to €2,700 for more experienced hires.
