Welcome to The Full Monty, the podcast where we shine a light on the stories that remain shrouded in mystery—stories that deserve answers, justice, and closure.
Today, we revisit a case that has haunted the small Ontario community of St. Thomas for more than 26 years: the tragic and unsolved double homicide of Roger Smith and Wendy Haveron. It was a cold winter morning on February 2nd, 1999, when a horrifying crime unfolded at Roger's farmhouse—forever changing the lives of two families and sending ripples of fear through the area.
Roger and Wendy were brutally murdered, their lives taken in one of the most violent acts this region has ever witnessed. The murder weapon—a common aluminum baseball bat—was used with such force that the crime scene still echoes with the brutality of that night. Adding to the darkness of this crime, two dogs were also killed within the house, amplifying the senseless cruelty of the act. But the violence didn’t stop there. In an effort to destroy evidence, the killer—or killers—poured an accelerant over their lifeless bodies and set the living room ablaze.
At approximately 6:00 a.m., emergency services were called to the scene under the pretense of a house fire, only to uncover the chilling reality of what had transpired. Despite the efforts of investigators and the dedication of the Ontario Provincial Police, this case remains unsolved. And the question persists: Who could commit such a heinous act?
Today, we’re joined by Wanda Smith, Wendy's sister, as she bravely shares her memories of Wendy, her reflections on that devastating day, and the toll that 26 years of unanswered questions has taken on her family. Together, we’ll discuss not only the personal impact of this tragedy but also the ongoing investigation. From speculation about a possible connection to biker gangs—given the area's history of unsolved murders with similar links—to suspicions around the hired hands who worked on Roger’s farm, we’ll explore the many theories and examine the unanswered questions that continue to linger.
This case is more than a story; it’s a call for action and community support. Someone, somewhere knows what happened that night. Someone holds the key to solving this mystery, bringing justice for Roger and Wendy, and granting long-overdue closure to their families. The $50,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction is still active, and your tip could make all the difference.
If you have any information—no matter how small—please contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (1-800-222-8477). You can remain completely anonymous. The families need your help. Let’s work together to ensure that Roger and Wendy’s story isn’t just remembered but resolved.
