The 10 year journey.
You might find yourself wondering who’s cryptic? Don’t worry I ask myself this question everyday.
Cryptic is a old gamer that has wanted to YouTube and stream for over 10 years now but has struggled to make it a reality, until now!! See things haven’t always been easy for me. Let’s go back to when this all started. 2008 I am 2 years out of high school. The economy is in a recession. I’m sleeping on my aunts and friends couch. I had a 87 ford es**rt that barely ran. I have a injury that needed surgery from a dirt bike incident, so I can’t do really do labor intensive things.
One day I swing by a good friends house and he’s playing Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare. I’m watching him like this is kind of sick. His game ends and he hands me controller says try it out. I grab the controller start playing and instantly I’m hooked. Think I even ended up staying over to play it all night. After I played I just couldn’t stop thinking about the game and how much fun it was. Sometime goes by and at this point I had a job but it was a minimum wage one and I’m still struggling.
One of my other good friends had just enlisted in the army and was wanting to sell his Xbox 360. And he gave me a hell of a deal on it so I couldn’t resist even knowing I shouldn’t spend money on it. At this time I just wanted to play for fun but shortly after all this I discovered people making tips/tricks, glitch , and top plays videos on YouTube. So I began some research on making money playing video games on the internet. Didn’t find much but this is back when streaming wasn’t a thing and YouTube was new to the world. Don’t forget I still have all the challenges of getting a home, finding a career, and providing for myself.
Fast forwarding to the winter of 2011 I now have a apartment and I am making ends meet. I have my own internet and I been grinding MW3 for about 2-3 months at this point. I’m playing on the map interchange and I get on a good streak and drop my first M.O.A.B ever. This is when I’m like alright I got some ok skills here I average a 1.5 k/d playing solo and have just dropped a Moab without any help. I start thinking to myself I need to find people to play with. So some time goes by and I find a gamer that went by the name of iFatality on Xbox .
He introduces me to a clan some time later called BaLiztic Gaming. I start playing with the clan and instantly we all just click and start owning in MW3. We played in the clan wars back when that was a thing and dominated it almost every weekend placing 1st, 2nd, 3rd place most of the time. All while carrying a 2.0 k/d and some other ridiculous stats. But my life was about to take a turn for the worst.
Moving on to the spring of 2012 I’m a friends house playing some pass the football with my friends brothers and reinjure my previous one and couldn’t walk on my left leg any more. I couldn’t work anymore and I lost my apartment. I have no options but to call my parents that had moved 2 hours away back around 2007. They tell me to come move in with them till I can get back on my feet. So I move back in with my parents and while in the process of getting surgery, Im still grinding MW3 at their house. I finally get to the drs and get the knee surgery scheduled for November 23rd of 2012. So November hits and you know what came out in November of 2012 it was call of duty black ops 2. Guess what I’m doing for the next 6 months? Physical therapy and playing bo2 with BaLiztic Gaming.
However the clan fell apart. Mostly because we were all getting older and you know jobs, kids, etc. Some lost interest, others didn’t but we all split. So my 6 months is up and it’s time to get back to working and moving back home. I’m 25 years old at this point and haven’t accomplished anything besides playing tons of hours on games. I come back to my hometown to visit some friends and one of them sets me up with a job where he works. I get the job and I’m staying with a friend for the time being trying to get my money right to get my own place and of course this idea of becoming a content creator is still in my head. So I start focusing back on the gaming stuff and finally create a YouTube channel back around 2015, but was I in for a rude awakening.
I started to research making thumbnails, editing videos, using obs to stream and instantly I’m overwhelmed with what it takes to be a content creator. Simply remember I have no computer background skills and have never even really began to understand file management or how to use a computer to its fullest extent. Also I’m trying to do all this stuff with a notebook laptop that just could not handle the task of rendering videos and barely could handle streaming. I go ahead and make some content and it’s terrible, I mean I still have these first videos up on my page if you want to see them. Just head over to cryptic gaming. Please don’t laugh to hard lol.
I don’t necessarily give up but I know I have got to get more skill creating content and better equipment. So I take a break and start looking for a better job around 2016. I also discover FB is getting into live videos around this time. Then I start to research this a bit and boy do I wish I would have went with my hunch of that time thinking how FB would blow up in the streaming industry because of all the users on it now. This hunch didn’t matter though because without skill or equipment it will not be successful.
Basically that hunch I had came true and now FB is blowing up with streamers. I got busy again in late 2018 and I finally have the equipment and knowledge. I can become successful if I just work hard like I have my whole life. So please know this is where my passion is. I have a successful job so I’m fine with however long it takes but gaming and sharing my knowledge is what I love to do. I wanted the truth/struggle about cryptic gaming to be heard. I’m not asking for sympathy or handouts. I’m a serious passionate gamer that almost has his ducks in a row. So if you enjoy the clips please LIKE, FOLLOW, OR SUBSCRIBE.
