Good hour spent with fellow local business people making content here in Madison. Looking forward to how this meet-up grows. Thanks to Screw It, Let's Do This podcast and Wesley at Spoken Frame Media for bringing us together.

Yesterday we hosting our first “Screw It, Let’s Do This” community discussion group! This topic was “content creation”, and we shared each other’s strategies and struggles. What discussion topics would you be interested in attending in the future?

Thanks to K and A Greenhouse for sharing their lists! Makes it fun and easy to plan ahead, see what you can purchase locally and support your favorite greenhouses! 💚

Plant Lists   These lists comprise the majority of plants we plan to carry during our retail season. **Master Plant Lists will be updated each March. **Due to the seasonal nature of our greenhouses, plants will become available at different points of our season. I love it when a garden has lots of layers. And mixes in natives with other flowers you just like.

I officially started my Wisconsin Horticulture - Extension Wisconsin Master Gardener certification course today. Excited to get started and keep learning and growing.

I read this somewhere today and it’s very fitting:

“In a few years it won’t matter how long it took you to reach the goal(s). You’ll just be so grateful you kept going and that you never gave up, you’ll be so proud of the person you’ve become in the process.”

What’s one of your favorite summer annuals to grow?

Each year I’ve been adding more Vermillionaire or Large Firecracker Plant from Proven Winners. It’s a Cuphea that hummingbirds love and I’ve been adding more each summer to keep our Ruby-throated Hummingbirds happy. They will stop by for visits all day long so I like to plant this in baskets and containers and put it next to our feeders as well. Give the little zoomers a party every day.

Sharing this today as Day 5 for Soil and Margaritas Home Gardener too.

Did you know poinsettias make great house plants and you can help them return their colors each fall for the holidays?

Here in Wisconsin, our longer, darker days can help them do this on their own pretty well in the winter. Here are some of mine enjoying sunset (and can we celebrate it being light after 5 pm?!)

But you can also help them along a little quicker to ensure color for the holidays.

Here are some of the poinsettias I saved from Christmas 2021 and 2022. They grow well all summer outside (and love it as tropicals) and then don’t mind a nice window all winter.

I love Klein's Floral & Greenhouses here in Madison, Wis., for poinsettias every holiday season. Great selection and colors. Great gift shopping too.

If you’re interested in learning how I get holiday color, let me know in the comments.

Do you enjoying thrifting?

I’m new to it. But I found this crystal decanter this Christmas for my husband. To elevate our cocktail game.

Makes a cocktail after a hard day of work in the garden a bit more special. Currently nearly empty - and well-enjoyed - of local hand-crafted bourbon from J. Henry & Sons Wisconsin Straight Bourbon in nearby Dane, Wis. Decanter found at Atomic Antiques.

I’m participating in Soil and Margaritas Home Gardener and today’s story challenge is to share something you thrifted for the garden. I’ll say this is garden adjacent in our home. Hoping to find 2 more vintage decanters for a gorgeous set of 3 eventually.

Stockpiling seeds. 🌱 Going to start planning my see starting soon.

Found these beauties from Renee's Garden Seeds at my local grocery store.

My goal this year is to *fingers crossed* try to grow most of what I want to add for spring and summer and also buy small potted plants and try to propagate more. With a goal to make this all more affordable long-term.

Also looking to expand and add a cutting garden area and more plants for pollinators 🐝 and wildlife to enjoy.

More seeds to come … And I’m currently watching fellow Jess talk through her seeds on YouTube from Roots and Refuge Farm. Love it.
