Releasing three new albums during 2025 was a rather large endeavour for Sonic Pieces. But most of this was already in the works in 2024, and in the case of Rauelsson’s “Niu”, even longer, as he invested a great deal of time in composing, recording, and refining this album. And we had already chosen the colours for the record covers in the summer of 2023, long before I had even heard the music. So it was wonderful to finally see the album come out at the beginning of the year and to also accompany Raúl for a few concerts in Portugal and Spain, together with Deaf Center, around the release. And as if it wasn’t enough to expand this album into an art book, we also realised an installation for it at mi - so this spring, which turned out to be a truly unique project.
The second release was a more spontaneous one and came out of the Sonic Pieces 15th anniversary showcase at Morphine Raum, Berlin in October 2024. Erik and Otto, who on this occasion played together as Deaf Center for the first time since 2019, were very happy with the recording of their performance. And although I was initially a bit sceptical about releasing it, they eventually convinced me to put it out on vinyl, which turned out great and I’m really grateful for this.
Last but not least, and perhaps the most special release of 2025 for me, was the debut album of solo piano compositions by Ruth Maine. It felt like a true collaboration in some ways, with a lot of ideas exchanged, and it partly bears my own signature, at least visually. And even if this may not be obvious, it draws a bow to the very beginnings of Sonic Pieces. It’s undoubtedly a deeply personal release.
Furthermore, I’ve spent a large part of this year preparing things for 2026. A few days ago, we already shared a little teaser for the next release. And there’s more to come. Keep an eye out 👀
