The experience of screening a feature film - something created with passion, through heartache and failure, through triumph and successes is hard to put into words. But the response of the audience in the moment of seeing the film play on the big screen makes everything worth the effort. I am still at a loss of words that Monochromatic was made, much less that it screened in a festival in the town I reside. But something else came from it all. I’ve been at odds with myself about what it means to be an artist. When I saw that the SDLFF labeled their creator badges with ARTIST, something clicked for me. Even if my work never sees the light of day, I will always be an artist. It is in my nature to bring ideas to life. And so THANK YOU to everyone over the years who believed in me, even when I didn’t. Thanks to the San Diego Latino Film Festival, I was given the opportunity to speak about my journey as a film-maker and co-producing Monochromatic with Sofia Carrillo to a film studies class at UCSD. It was a great experience and the students asked amazing questions!
