Don Bosco Makati Elementary Gazette Staffers Gear Up for Three-Saturday Campus Journalism Camp

Twenty-one promising student journalists from the Elementary Department, accompanied by one of their school paper animators, Mr. Nikko John Patiño and Student Activities Coordinator, Ms. Maricel Barceta, are set to sharpen their campus journalism skills at the School of the Holy Spirit, BF Homes, Quezon City.

Fresh from an initial workshop with Mr. Patiño, Mrs. Annabelle Buensuceso and Mr. Neogabriel Cagadas – covering news, feature, editorial, sports and cartooning— the students are primed for the three-Saturday Journalism Camp themed “Informed. Inspired. Involved: Campus Journalists on the Frontline of Digital Media.” The program is organized by the Association of Private School Administrators, Inc. in Quezon City.

Throughout the program, distinguished speakers will equip participants with essential skills to produce compelling and credible articles for their campus paper.

Day One begins today, August 9, 2025, setting the stage for a week of practice before the highly anticipated writing contest. The final Saturday will wrap up with an awarding ceremony to recognize outstanding achievements in student journalism.

From headlines to deadlines, these young writers are ready to make their mark. Let’s go, young journalists—your voice is the news and your stories matter!

The Bosconian Gazette officially welcomed its staffers for school year 2025-2026 with its first general assembly held today, July 8, at the Science Laboratory 1 of the Elementary Department.

The assembly commenced with the introduction of animators, Mr. Nikko John Patiño and Mrs. Annabelle Buensuceso, who will be supervising the school magazine's overall content and operation.

The main highlight of the assembly was the unveiling of the new organizational structure composed of the editorial board, student writers and creative artists.

Student Writers, composed of news writers, feature writers, literary writers and sports writers were assigned to spearhead upcoming school events such as Nutrition Month, Buwan ng Wika at Kasaysayan, Teacher's Day and Marian Month. This new structure aims to highlight the strengths of each member in various journalism lenses, not only in writing, but also in the field of cartooning and photojournalism.

Preparations for upcoming competitions and milestones were also discussed such as Bosconian Quill and Division Schools Press Conference. The animators emphasized the need for an intensified training which will commence in the next few weeks.

Another exciting announcement was the launching of the new Bosconian Gazette Office, a dedicated space where staffers meet to collaborate, write, and plan school events.

As the school year officially starts, the Bosconian Gazette is also set to start new beginnings. Gearing towards new milestones and achievements, staffers are bound to be the voice of their fellow Bosconians — leading them to become good Christians and upright citizens.

JUST IN: Don Bosco Makati Elementary Department and the Bosconian Gazette Wrap Up This Year’s Summer Writing Workshop

The 5-day intensive writing masterclass successfully concluded today, May 23, 2025, with a session on revision strategies and feedbacking, facilitated by Mrs. Annabelle L. Buensuceso, one of the Gazette animators.

Participants applied their insights from the discussion and revised their essay for the last time before submitting their final output. From their prewriting essay, students significantly improved their essays over time by listening to meaningful lectures on writing process, basic sentence and grammar structure, the Hamburger model for paragraph writing, and revision strategies.

An awarding ceremony was held to recognize the students for their active participation and dedication throughout the workshop. With newly acquired writing skills, these young learners are now better prepared for the upcoming school year.

As the workshop ends, another opportunity begins — our young students are well on their way to becoming successful writers in the future.

Congratulations to our workshop attendees for their commitment in this endeavor: Simon Felix L. Imperial, Rheniel Keiden S. Dela Peña, Joaquin Rafael L. Uy, Brandon Santiago Kamel, and Aiden Ryan A. Ferreras.

We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to the parents for their support in making this event a success.

Today, May 19, 2025, marks the first day of the Summer Writing Workshop of Don Bosco Makati – Elementary Department, in partnership with the Bosconian Gazette.

Participants from Grades 4 to 6 attended the five-day writing class, which began with a creative self-introduction activity. The students were asked to draw a figure that best represented themselves. After getting to know one another, Mr. Nikko John Patiño, the keynote facilitator for the day, emphasized the importance of writing as a process and how essential it is for young and aspiring writers.

The basics of writing were also introduced, including the use of writing symbols, grammar, capitalization, and punctuation. Students were taught the differences between symbols such as comma, apostrophe, colon and semicolon and how they function in a sentence.

Today's workshop highlighted the prewriting activity, which was conducted to assess the participants' writing skills. They were asked to complete a three-paragraph essay in 20 minutes on the topic - "All About Myself". This was followed by an analysis of their word and sentence counts, which will serve as the springboard for tomorrow’s discussion.

Way to go, Elementary Bosconians!
