This photo was taken in 2005 while I was living and working in Los Angeles, CA. At this time of my career I had just joined a band called Martyr Plot, a Los Angeles-based alternative rock band formed by & drummer Kenny Wilson (AKA Ginger Fish) and former Tuff Luck co-founder and guitarist David Scott (AKA Dave Plotkin) hailing from Fort Lauderdale, FL. I was introduced to both Dave and Kenny through our mutual friend, Doug Diamond. Martyr Plot was formed during Marilyn Manson’s Against All Gods tour, when in 2004 Kenny suffered a head injury and broken collarbone while performing at the Viva Comet Awards. Unable to complete the remainder of the tour he was replaced by drummer and keyboardist Chris Vrenna from 2004-2005.
I remember first meeting Kenny at rehearsal at his home. His arm was still in a sling and he was playing drums with only one arm. Just listening to him play, I remember thinking to myself, you would never guess that he was only using one arm. He is such an amazing drummer and this was beyond impressive.
I was originally enlisted as the second guitarist in the band, but vacated the position shortly after the addition of Tuff Luck bassist James Marino and prior to the band’s debut performance at the notable King King Club in Hollywood, California. I remember the confusion I felt at the time, because I was also on the verge of joining forces with former guitarists Nathaniel Cox and Robert Davis who were kicking off their own side-project called Maryandi (AKA The Yelling) after the demise of their band Revis. However, this too would turn out to be short-lived for me, unfortunately.
Upon my departure from Martyr Plot, I was replaced by Michael Shuman of the band Wires On Fire as second guitarist. He too would end up leaving the band after only a short stint and in 2007 joined before the release of Era Vulgaris, replacing Alain Johannes, who chose to focus on other musical projects.
…How the turns table 🃏
