Please be aware that a couple of fraudulent SIU pages recently surfaced. Initially, the contents on those pages were either reposts of what we’ve put on our official page, or just messages from users who undoubtedly thought we had launched additional sites.

That changed when one of the pages started advertising merchandise. For your own cyber-security, we urge you not to click on those links, as they undoubtedly are not what they appear.

We have reported both and expect them to be removed, though it may take a while.

It appears likely that the people directly behind those accounts aren’t really people, but bots. You may know that Meta or Facebook estimates there are 150 million fraudulent accounts around the world, of varying sophistication.

Meanwhile, you can always find our official page at facebook.com/SeafarersInternational/. We have other social media pages as well, and they’re linked on our website’s home page.

The SIU took part in the American School Counselor Association’s (ASCA) “Navigate and Innovate” conference July 12-15 in Long Beach, California. It’s a major recruiting event for maritime (and other industries); this is the union’s third time attending the conference. Several SIU-contracted companies also participated, as did the Seafarers-affiliated American Maritime Officers and the U.S. Military Sealift Command. Approximately 5,000 school counselors attend each conference. SIU Director of Recruiting Ryan Covert is pictured at the podium in the panel photo and at the SIU/Paul Hall Center booth, talking to a guest. Many thanks to SIU Recruiting Media Coordinator Lauren Liles for the photos.
