“I am the resurrection and the life.” -John 11:30

When Jesus made this declaration He was not speaking to a crowd of 20,000… he was speaking to Martha, a woman, His friend whom He loved who was grieving the loss of her brother.

And her bold response when He asked her if she believed, “Yes, Lord, I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God who has come into the world.”

How often are we too busy? Too busy with doing everything that has to get done? Too busy with important things like work and taking care of those we love?

Jesus knows our daily burdens. And yet, just as He gently reminded Martha, the most important place we can be is at His feet. Why? Because that is where rest is found, where He takes our burdens and soothes our weary souls.

Join us Tuesday for our season finale as we discuss Jesus’ love towards Martha and His invitation for her to step away from her worries and spend time with Him.

Jesus had not come soon enough. Lazarus was dead. Martha ran to Jesus before He reached her house to ask Him why He was not there for had He been, her brother would not have died.

Martha knew that there was life beyond Lazarus’ death and she would see him again, yet her grief was overwhelming. Jesus knew He was going to raise Lazarus from the dead that day and yet Martha and Mary’s grief so moved Him that He wept.

We do not have a far off God who does not understand. He is with us today in whatever we are facing. We can also believe and rest fully in Him, and yet our hearts can still be broken.

The woman we have known through her affliction of blood is not how Jesus knew her nor is that what He called her. He called her Daughter. She was healed, but more than that, like a loving and kind Father, He claimed her as His own.

Daughters, NEVER forget your Father is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, and He sees you, claims you, and loves you dearly.

Do you know that in the beginning God thought about you? Yes! When all that creating the heavens and the earth and hovering over the waters and let there be light stuff was going on… He had you on His mind. He already loved you and longed for the day when you would love Him.

There’s good reason why the Bible mentions in Hebrews 10:25 that we should “not give up meeting together.” The Lord knows we need each other, to embrace and encourage. How often do we take gathering for granted until isolation is forced upon us (remember the early days of Covid)? The woman who bled was an outcast, considered unclean and unworthy to be around. Her encounter with Jesus changed all of that.
