The national observance also recognizes the courage of the first responders and service members who served in the wake of the attacks.

The Department of War honors the memories of those who died in the 9/11 terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and in Shanksville, Pa.

The Space Force plans to make its first service dress uniform available to guardians later this year with staged rollouts throughout in 2026, said Air Force spokesperson Maj. Kaitlin D. Holmes. Recruiters and military training instructors at boot camp will get the first wave, along with senior leaders and brand-new graduating Reserve Officers’ Training Corps cadets.

Currently, guardians are not required to wear the new service dress uniform, an Air Force spokesperson said.

Following today's White House announcement:

02/09/2025

Vandenberg Space Force Base Guardians and Airmen are scheduled to support the launch of a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket carrying 24 Starlink satellites into low-Earth orbit today, Tuesday, September 2, between 7:33 - 11:33 p.m. from Space Launch Complex 4 East.

This launch supports Department of Defense communications through advanced low Earth orbit technology. VSFB’s analysis indicates there will be no sonic boom heard over populated areas.
Areas local to Vandenberg Space Force Base will hear the initial low rumble of take-off.

Vandenberg SFB continues to provide safe and reliable access to space in support of national security and Homeland defense.

A live webcast of this mission will begin about five minutes prior to liftoff, which you can watch here: https://www.spacex.com/launches/sl-17-8 and on X .

Following stage separation, the first stage will land on the Of Course I Still Love You droneship, which will be stationed in the Pacific Ocean.

Today’s lineup is wild: Feds say a group of veterans swiped over $150K from an Air Force base’s sports program in Florida (06:57). The Pentagon just showed off a warship with ZERO crew — a real ghost ship sailing into the future of warfare (16:58). We also salute the last American fighter ace of WWII, who flew into history at 103 (34:16). And on this day in 1957, the Soviets dropped a bombshell — the first-ever ICBM test that proved no corner of the globe was safe (39:47). Strap in, this episode’s got scandal, innovation, heroes, and Cold War chills all in one shot!

The Space Force has authorized Guardians in certain jobs to wear “mission tabs” on their uniforms as part of its new dress and appearance policy, which was released earlier this month.

The move marks a split from rules used by the Air Force, which recently stopped allowing airmen to wear similar tabs, which it calls duty identifier patches.

The Space Force’s move comes several months after the Air Force banned similar duty identifier patches for airmen.
