NEWS | SnJA commences Sci-Math Month 2026, setting youth STEM-oriented action into motion
San Jose Academy (SnJA) officially launched Science and Mathematics Month 2026, challenging students to look beyond classroom theory and utilize STEM disciplines to drive solutions for real-world issues through advancement, innovation, technology, and hope.
Spearheaded by Mathematics Department Coordinator Mr. Eliazar B. Luciano and Science Team Leader Mr. Jeffrey L. Burias, this year's Science and Mathematics Month focuses on the theme "MAPPING HOPE. MODELING THE FUTURE: Measuring Progress, Sensing Solutions, and Putting Mathematics and Science into Action."
The month-long celebration emphasizes that science and mathematics extend beyond classroom walls, serving as vital tools for making informed decisions, tackling societal challenges, and creating meaningful change.
Highlighting the momentous celebration, Mr. Burias emphasized moving these core subjects beyond grades and into real community service. He called science and mathematics "instruments of service, responsibility, and stewardship—helping us use our God-given gifts to care for one another and for creation."
The celebration centers on four core pillars—Advancement, Innovation, Technology, and Hope—that direct students to utilize evidence-based research, think creatively, deploy modern tools responsibly, and build resilience against societal challenges.
Starting with Advancement, described by Mr. Burias as "the heart of human progress," this pillar allows people to view and understand the world around them as a platform for developing real solutions to everyday challenges, strictly guided by knowledge, purpose, and determination.
The next pillar is Innovation, the influencer of progression. Mr. Burias highlighted curiosity as the essential fuel for innovation, explaining that it begins with a single question and evolves into creative thinking that shifts how people approach complex problems, ultimately turning abstract ideas into practical solutions.
Combating challenges that hold the future at stake is addressed through the third pillar, technology. Its use shall depend on the user’s goal of achieving a common good. Hence, responsibility and creativity must be integrated.
In order to move forward, the fourth pillar reminds the community to look ahead with hope: the ability to persevere through the collaboration of minds that can overcome rapid technological and environmental changes.
In their address, the event leaders emphasized that a mind eager to ask questions is a mind filled with potential solutions. They noted that through these ideas and collective efforts, addressing societal challenges becomes key to fostering a progressive, responsible community. “With faith, let us move forward with knowledge in our minds, purpose in our hearts, and hope for the future,” expressed Mr. Burias and Mr. Luciano, beaming in anticipation.
