JANUARY-LIKE THROUGH THURSDAY
It feels like we’ve gone straight from summer into winter. The average high temperature in mid-January in Atlanta is 54 degrees. We’ll spend the next three days with highs only in the low to mid 50s. We’ll see some drizzle possible today with much better rain chances returning for Wednesday. After that, we’ll likely be cold enough for frost come Friday night! 🧊

HURRICANE MELISSA
The people of Jamaica need prayers today and will need lots of help in the days ahead. They are staring down a catastrophic, category 5 hurricane landfall within the next 24 hours. Hurricane Hunters had to abandon their most recent pass through the center of the storm due to extreme turbulence. This is rare and may speak to just how powerful of a storm Melissa is. Flash flooding and extreme wind damage both imminent.

UP TO 3 INCHES OF RAIN AHEAD
Two different storm systems will bring beneficial rain chances to north Georgia over the next few days. One chance comes through tomorrow into Monday, and another Wednesday into Thursday. Add it up, widespread 2+ inch totals look possible with over 3 inches not out of the question across northeast Georgia. We need it!

RAIN ON THE WAY
Rain chances return to north Georgia Sunday evening, and especially Sunday night into Monday. An approaching upper level disturbance will bring more clouds and eventually rain showers by Sunday evening. On and off rain showers continue through Monday evening, amounting to .5 – 1.5 inches. An additional system will likely bring more rain through the middle part of next week. Just what the drought doctor ordered!

Saturday will be the better of the two weekend days if you have outdoor plans. We’ll see a mix of sun and clouds, mild temperatures, and an easterly breeze. Come Sunday, we’re watching clouds thicken up and eventually rain showers by Sunday evening. Additional weather disturbances will bring more showers through the middle part of next week.

DROUGHT IS GETTING BAD
The latest drought monitor released yesterday shows widespread moderate drought across north Georgia. Severe drought, and now extreme drought is expanding across parts of the Atlanta metro. Some relief should be on the way with rain chances going up Sunday night into Monday.
