To most this would just be a very obscure and chunky looking Mongoose bike they've never seen before and never heard about. To me one of these Mongoose Bicycles XR-850's was the catalyst to me being a lifelong mountain biker back in 2000 when teenage me saved up and put a down payment on one to reserve in layaway. Once I had it, that bike had me jumping every dirt berm, dropping off every dock ledge, and even eventually (once totally rebuilt) hitting Windrock's downhill courses. A $450 Mongoose was more than just a bike, it was carefree fun for multiple summers for me in my teenage years, and even into my 20's before I sold it (life happens).
But... I had a chance to get another one. A XR-850 that was still basically stock straight from 25 years ago... So I did! Literally a blast from the past for me and a ride down memory lane/jump/trail/drop-off.

Just testing out footage of a Bucklos fork I've been testing, and wanted to get a nice clip of it in action. This is a quick little video, will end up being part of a full review to come later. This is my 2nd Bucklos XM fork, been running this one for a few months but my other has been going for a couple seasons now.

quick pic from an action camera I'm testing out, with the subject being my Mongoose Ledge project bike (those who've watched my videos have seen part of the upgrades already) from my ride this afternoon. Was 92/93 degrees out and very humid, so I was drenched after about 10.5 miles.
For a budget action camera the picture came out well I think!
As for the bike, it's the Ledge 29er I've showcased after snagging it for only $300 on sale. Upgrades include the following:
-Full Shimano Cues group, now including the cranks
-Bucklos XM fork
-Meroca shock
-Bucklos bar, stem, grips, headset and pedals
-Maxxis Pace rear tire (much better rolling resistance, while still being good enough grip as a rear)
-Orange Jagwire cable housing, and a few orange bits here or there.
Still stock: Wheels, front tire, brakes (decent at least), seatpost, and saddle.
As is, all in for $640 but the best part is I've been riding it as a test the whole season from the stock $300 form (was not great stock though, lol) to now, and it's grown on me more and more. A solid bike now for general single track.
