Dibiaship: The Sacred Faculty of Divine Science
Dibiaship is not a title; it is a faculty ,a spiritual university with numerous departments, each governed by divine contracts (Iyiụwa) and cosmic mandates. In truth, not all Dibia are called to become custodians of culture. Some are sent to serve humanity in distinct dimensions, while others are charged with preserving the sanctity and purity of our ancestral heritage.
In ancient times, Dibia were meticulously classified according to their calling and area of spiritual specialization. A Dibia's path was not self-chosen it was dictated by their Ora Mmuo . But alas, the pursuit of Ego Oyibo (foreign constructs of wealth) has corrupted the sacred order. Today, many who wear the mantle of Dibia have become victims of what I call "Spiritual Polygamy Syndrome" (SPS) a condition where one attempts to marry every department within Dibiaship, ending up a jack of all trades and a master of none. This syndrome has painted Dibiaship as trivial, even comical.A sacred science now mistaken for a child’s pastime.
Yet, in the days of our forebears, things were done with divine order. We had Dibia Afa (seers and diagnosticians of the highest grade), blessed with an awakened Osenambo (Third Eye), the divine lens that sees beyond the visible. When one encountered problems be it spiritual, social, economic or medical, these Dibia would diagnose the root causes and prescribe pathways to restoration.
If the issue was health-related, the Dibia Afa would not claim all knowledge. Instead, you would be referred to a Dibia N’eme Ọbalaọra:
the one skilled in producing, inscribing, and administering medicine(our ancestral pharmacist). If a pregnant woman experienced complications, she would be directed to a female Dibia whose cosmic contract covers maternal healing, a spiritual cm medical gynaecologist. Every calling had its corridor. That was the wisdom of our ancestors: specialization was sacred, not optional.
Now, some may argue that a Dibia is a master of all knowledge and to that I say, you are not entirely wrong. A Dibia, by virtue of their spiritual ordination, is a custodian of divine intelligence, a mediator between man and the cosmos. By accessing Agwụ:
the infinite source of universal wisdom a Dibia can offer insights across social, political, spiritual, and metaphysical terrains.
But even with this access, our ancestors understood the divine need for division of labour. Therefore, while every true Dibia must learn the full breadth of Dibiaship, they are trained to specialize in their own cosmic department. Mathematically speaking, Dibia is the superset; all other forms are subsets nested within it.
Now, hear this: evolution is the law of continuity. “Due to evolution, man must continue to expand or cease to exist.”
So how does a Dibia especially one raised in Christian tradition or living in the diaspora fit into contemporary reality?
This question is crucial because many have heard the voice of their calling but are battling with social stigma, cultural loss, and spiritual displacement. Others, scattered across Europe and America, feel disconnected from the sacred path because of geography. But the truth is: your location does not void your vocation.
Dibia can exist in London. In Berlin. In New York. If your calling is to heal, then you are already a Dibia, even if society calls you a clinical psychologist, herbalist, nurse, neurologist, counsellor, or doctor. These are merely linguistic translations of spiritual archetypes. A Dibia is anyone called by nature to serve humanity. That is the core of our mission service.
We must break free from this mental programming, Culture is meant to evolve. Any culture that refuses to evolve is bound to suffer decline. But even in evolution, let us not lose our essence for culture is made for the people, not the other way around.
Let me remind you: you do not need to relocate to your ancestral village to answer your calling. Answer it wherever you are. Let your essence shine through your work. Whether in a clinic, classroom, or consulting room know that you are in service to a higher calling.
You are a Dibia not because of your tools, but because of your cosmic contract.
So rise, child of Agwụ. Identify your Iyiuwa. Step into your department. And fit in.
Or risk being forgotten by time.
