Hey! I had a great time DJing for .collective last night!

FINALLY got to meet and hear here play (great set!)…it’s no secret is one of my favourite record labels, the note that came with the t-shirt i ordered was so sweet! Thanks Jason hope to meet you one day too!

- killer set. Fantastic DJ. Closing it down at Vantek every weekend has really paid off.

I’m not gonna lie, when i posted this to r/propertechno i expected the usual compliment, a few likes and a bit of traffic to the video. Seeing this scathing review as the very first comment caught me off guard and really upset me. Like, this guy really went out of his way. You might not know it, but I always second guess myself as an artist - after most sets I play I’m always focused on the mistakes I made and don’t usually think I played that good until I’ve listened to the recording later. This post was almost like my inner voice coming to life and confirming what I often think deep down.

Thanks to the encouragement of my wife, my friends and random techno lovers, I’m feeling much better about this today. I’m going to wear this post as a badge of honour, after 25 years of this I have my first real hater. Or at least my most vocal one.

For the record, I love this mix. I’ve listened to it on repeat for the last week and I accomplished exactly what I set out to do. It’s got my favourite tracks over the past 4 months, the Ableton Live sounds have improved significantly and are quite badass, and despite what this guy says, it does flow and tells a story. There aren’t any 64 bar breakdowns, it’s pretty much a continuous groove - which was the goal.

This is a hybrid DJ set: Traktor Pro handles the tracks, while Ableton Live runs my own samples, synths, soundscapes, drums and loops on channel 4. Been working hard to lock this in — and I feel like I’m just hitting my stride.

I had a wonderful time playing for .underrealm before .a.v.e._the_drummer!!!

The stage and lighting was top notch, and the new sound system is really great! Thank you to all the people who threw down! Henry played an unreal set, dropped some classics i havnt heard in so long!

The first hybrid set went smooth! It’s a bunch of work to set up and take down - i def won’t be doing this for every gig. But there is something so satisfying about laying down a synth or groove you worked on from Ableton on the 4th channel.

Thanks for an unforgettable night guys!

Hey techno heads

I just wanted you all to know that I am super excited and honoured to open for .a.v.e._the_drummer this Friday, May 9th at . It has been a couple of decades since I’ve seen the bloke (a British word for pal), and I am very much looking forward seeing and hearing him again.

His music, along with that of the entire Stay Up Forever crew, had a huge influence on me and my group of friends. The whole punk rock mentality really resonated with us. They had a huge part in shaping the free party movement around the world—from the UK to Brazil, the US, Canada, Europe, and beyond. Calgary was no exception.

It’s really exciting to see this kind of thing start up again. It went missing for a while over here, and now, post-COVID things are moving quick quickly towards a more vibrant underground scene.

(Fat Beats Incorporated!), as well as Chris Hewitt from the Warehouse, had a lot to do with giving us the chance to hear these guys back then. After the Warehouse closed its doors, Chris set up shop at Dickens. So it’s really sweet to have them collaborate on this one. Lots of old schoolers will be mixing it up with the new kids.

Keeping it deep, easing the listener in before taking them into some hypnotic mayhem, which will be in the next set of clips. I chose to play 2 tracks of Rene Wises latest EP, starting both at the same time, moving and weaving in and out of different frequencies. Such a fantastic album.
