A public rally turned violent today in Kangpokpi district of Manipur amidst CrPC Section 144 being imposed in the area by District Magistrate. The rally was organised by the Kuki CSOs against the state government’s move towards declaring certain lands as either Reserved Forest areas or wetlands and alleged forceful eviction and demolition without proper rehabilitation or resettlement for the affected families.
Protesters are seen pelting stones at the police and their vehicles. In another video police commandos are seen thrashing a woman protester.
