I have a “mini-theory” about how lifelong relationships are forged and perpetuated. I think it has less to do with intentional acts, and more to do with a heart shaped foundation. Every word spoken and deed done in kindness, if singularly observed, might not be worthy of acknowledgement, but when done naturally by a heart borne of love towards a person to which that heart has made a covenant, it becomes a recognizable adhesive strong enough to not simply unite but to ultimately blend two souls into an unbreakable oneness that moves past human failings into a cohesive union defined by love in action, forgiveness by nature, and kindness defined by words that heal, gentleness defined by demeanor, and faithfulness defined by discernment. All that to say this; being an emissary of Christlikeness is what we must become by nature. Being such a representative establishes a really good heart shaped foundation on which relationships can stand in order to weather the test of time. Thus relationships endure and the world becomes a better place to live. It’s something to shoot for… at least that’s where my mind settled this morning.
Proverbs 4:23 “Above all else guard your heart for it is the wellspring of life.”
