Subject: FYI trans female youth NIH study
SHINE study at SFDPH
About our project:
SHINE is the first longitudinal NIH-funded research study to investigate HIV risk and resilience among trans-female youth ages 16-24 in the SF Bay Area. The goal is to get 300 youth in the SF bay area to participate so we have concrete data about the risks this community faces and the resilience they exhibit in spite of it all.
That said, here is the eligibility criteria for participation. Youth must:
1. Live in the (greater) San Francisco Bay Area
2. Identify as something other than their assigned male s*x at birth
3. Be 16-24 years old
Youth who are eligible and enroll will participate in 3 consecutive surveys- in which they will be paid $50, $70, and $100. Youth will also be paid $20 for checking in at 3 and 9 months. And they will be given remuneration of $20 for each peer they refer who enrolls in the study. If it's challenging to get to our office in San Francisco, we are happy to meet participants at a location that's convenient for them.
Youth interested in being screened to participate can contact us a number of ways:
1. **The best is to call our study phone or text us here: (415) 407-2221**
2. They can contact us through our website as well- www.theshinestudy.org
3. They can call our office study phone number and leave a message at (415) 437-6289
Also, we put together a list of resource for transyouth in the SF bay Area. Here's our wiki in case you are interested, though I'm sure you all have a lot of contacts already.
