Going to guess 1992 for this in store double header of two of our absolute favourite "bands" of that era, both at the height of their powers, crammed into the first tiny Scratch underground location. If this lifetime ever allows the time to sort through cassettes boxed up in the loft, there may be even be a live recording. Poster artwork by the one and only Blaine Thurier...

Found a stack of glossies, from back when you used to have to mail actual photos to magazines, and from when magazines were printed and such. Who were these youngsters?! Photos by Chris Frey!

Thanks Grant Lawrence for the amusing memory lane post tying the Scratch derelicts in training of the day to the then dangerous Cambie Pub. https://www.vancourier.com/community/thirty-years-ago-the-cambie-was-a-rite-of-passage-for-vancouver-s-indie-rock-scene-1.23879073?fbclid=IwAR0RUy9KPZ1_huxc_5PVH3JvKdv8BP-VEPLkgaSQNueWelElSL18ozDGLgA

Before backpackers, bike couriers and the grunge crowd took over, the Cambie was a notorious dive-bar that attracted the down and out as well as the vanguard of Vancouver’s indie music scene.

Gig poster for Suckdog, Superconductor, Hump show as thrown by Lungbutter Productions (Justice Schanfarber and Keith). Guess of the year would be 1992. Suckdog cancelled as some violence the night before in Olympia got Lisa Suckdog's nose and/or arm broken. Superconductor and Hump played, which means there was a good chance of lit sparklers up a Hump reverse crab walking butt.

A sad morning learning of the passing of Timbre Concerts founder Peter McCullough. For our 25 years as a store front we worked with Peter and of course salute him as one of Vancouver's most valuable historical cultural ambassadors for live events, but more importantly we miss him as kind and solid human being. Everything was always easy and genuine with Peter. Much love and respect to the entire McCullough family and Timbre Concerts.

Very cool interview (from this year!) with the semi mythical Mark Szabo, an amazingly talented fella central to a lot of important Vancouver acts from the 90's. Mark played in Thee Crusaders (along with Scott Morgan of Loscil, AC Newman of Zumpano, Superconductor, & the New Pornographers, Sara Lapsley of Kreviss, The Gay, & Vancouver Knights, and Blaine Thurier (New Pornographers). The Thee Crusaders double single is still one of the coolest (not to mention poorest selling) releases on Scratch., Mark was also the brainchild behind the Sidereal Music Sleep Vehicle concept compilation we put out. Mark still makes music! Mark helped move our warehouse in April! Mark deserves more recognition for all of the great projects he was part of (early cassette culture, solo albums on Catsup Plate, Horsey, Good Horsey, Capozzi Park).
