The Levy County Board of County Commissioners is pleased to announce that the Solid Waste Department is taking a transformative step forward in building a better, more effective recycling system for our residents. Through a cash grant of $130,000 and an in-kind services match of $125,000, totaling $255,000.00 from The Recycling Partnership, Inc., Levy County will significantly enhance its recycling infrastructure, equipment, and educational outreach services.
This effort is a collaborative project between the Solid Waste Department, lead by Maintenance and Utilities Division Director Benny Jerrels and County Grant Coordinator Brooke Smith to improve local recycling operations, raise public awareness, and encourage community-wide participation in creating a cleaner, greener future for Levy County. The Recycling Partnership is a national nonprofit dedicated to building a stronger recycling system. They bring together industry leaders, policymakers, and local governments to enact meaningful change that benefits people, communities, and the environment.
The project includes new recycling equipment at the landfill facility, improved public signage to guide proper recycling practices, and a countywide outreach and education campaign aimed at helping residents understand what materials can be recycled and how to do so responsibly. This project represents an exciting step forward in creating a recycling system that works for everyone in Levy County. With new equipment, enhanced outreach, and the expertise of The Recycling Partnership, Levy County is on track to make a recycling impact.
