A mosquito species never before documented in the United States has been discovered by a UF Entomology & Nematology Department researcher in Arizona's remote mountain ranges.

The species was previously known only from Mexico, and its discovery raises new questions about mosquito diversity, distribution and what our scientists still have to learn, even in places that have been studied for decades.

Just a reminder that the Levy County Board of County Commissioners, Levy County Sheriff's Office and Levy County Department of Public Safety will hold a 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony this Friday, September 11, 2026.
