🚨 Conflicting Primaries Disruptive, Wasting INEC Resources – Yakubu 🗳️

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu, emphasized the need for political parties to avoid parallel primaries and the emergence of multiple candidates.

📅 Updated March 20, 2024

At the first regular quarterly consultative meeting with political parties in Abuja, Yakubu highlighted the disruption and costliness of frequent changes, as seen in the recent Edo primaries.

He stated, "The commission cannot mobilise, de-mobilise and re-mobilise our officials for the monitoring of party primaries for the convenience of political parties."

This situation has led to unnecessary litigations, according to Yakubu.

The commission convened with political parties to assess the success of past rerun and bye-elections and to prepare for the off-cycle governorship election in Edo and Ondo.

In the lead-up to the Edo State Governorship Election, several political parties conducted parallel primaries, resulting in conflicting claims for candidacy, notably within the APC and PDP.

**Remi Tinubu Advocates Death Penalty for Kidnappers, Affirms Commitment to Women's Empowerment**

**Article:**

In a fervent call for justice, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Nigeria’s First Lady, has urged state governors and lawmakers to enforce the death penalty for kidnappers, branding their actions as cowardly and heart-wrenching. Speaking at a gathering of national women leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja, Tinubu emphasized the urgent need to protect the country's future by imposing severe consequences on perpetrators of such heinous crimes.

Expressing her deep concern over the increasing abduction of children and women, Tinubu underscored the pivotal role mothers play in nurturing and safeguarding their offspring. She passionately advocated for the imposition of capital punishment on individuals involved in kidnapping, asserting that such drastic measures are necessary to preserve the sanctity of human life and deter potential offenders.

Tinubu, a former lawmaker, appealed to the collective conscience of society, highlighting the devastating impact of kidnapping on families and the nation as a whole. She urged fellow mothers to rally behind her stance, emphasizing the innate bond between parents and their children, which compels them to vehemently oppose any threat to their well-being.

Furthermore, Tinubu reiterated her commitment to advancing the cause of women's empowerment under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu. Recognizing the pivotal role of women in nation-building, she called for greater inclusion and opportunities for women to thrive economically, socially, and politically.

As the world celebrated International Women’s Day, Tinubu commended the resilience and tenacity of Nigerian women, vowing to champion their causes through the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI). Emphasizing the importance of solidarity and mutual support among women, she urged them to harness their collective strength to overcome obstacles and achieve meaningful progress.

In response, the gathering, led by Dr. Mary Alile and Zainab Ibrahim, lauded Tinubu for her impactful interventions through the RHI and appealed for increased representation in the government. They echoed Tinubu's call for unity and solidarity among women, pledging to work together towards a brighter future for all.

🔥😡 Inmates Riot Over Food Cuts! 😡🔥

Amidst Economic Struggle, Jos Correctional Centre Faces Unrest!

The Jos Correctional Centre in Plateau State became a battleground as inmates voiced their anger over plans to slash their food rations.

😤 Dissatisfaction soared as prison authorities sought to reduce food portions due to skyrocketing costs, leading to chaos that saw tear gas and gunshots fired into the air.

Sources revealed that the contracted food supplier lamented the steep prices, prompting a cutback in rice distribution from four times a week to just twice, with grains or garri as substitutes.

This decision sparked outrage among inmates during a routine briefing, prompting a violent confrontation with officials.

Confirming the incident, Controller of Corrections for Plateau State, Raphael Ibinuhi, explained the necessity of using force to quell the unrest.

"With tensions escalating, tear gas and gunfire were employed to restore order," Ibinuhi stated, noting minor injuries among staff from inmate-thrown stones but assuring no inmate harm.

The Jos Custodial Centre, housing over a thousand inmates, witnessed the fury firsthand, underscoring the wider economic discontent plaguing Nigeria.

As protests ripple across the nation demanding relief from economic hardships, President Bola Tinubu urges patience while condemning recent strikes by the Nigeria Labour Congress.

"Freedom notwithstanding, initiating a strike within nine months of an administration is unacceptable," Tinubu asserted during the inauguration of the Lagos Red Line Train.

Amidst cries for economic justice, the clash at Jos Correctional Centre underscores the urgency for solutions to alleviate the burden on Nigerians.
