Glanmore Presents Historic Questionable Ideas, Glass Gr***de Style Fire Extinguishers. These were either thrown by hand or mounted in a fashion to be dropped or broken when exposed to the heat of a fire. These were effective extinguishers filled with carbon tetrachloride (CTC). The issue is, that with repeated exposure or in as little as 15 minutes this chemical can have severe and even fatal effects. As if that weren't bad enough, when heated, CTC can produce phosgene gas - a chemical weapon used during WW1.

During the Victorian era some unscrupulous merchants would add Lead Chromate to mustard to give it a brighter colour while containing less actual mustard, therefore making it cheaper. Lead Chromate is the same material that's used in the paint of American school buses. Not a good food additive.

Glanmore Presents Victorian Era Bad Ideas - Hair Wash?!?! In the Victorian era a lot of hair washes contained significant amounts of Ammonia. It was thought to stimulate hair growth or perhaps remove unwanted hair. Many modern hair dyes contain some ammonia, but it is not a substance that should be used often on the scalp or skin as it can cause damage and hair loss.
