A new study by Karen Tan, a Middle Tennessee State University professor, explores why U.S. workers often feel guilty about using their paid time off (PTO). After moving from Singapore, Tan noticed many Americans hesitate to take vacation, even though it’s earned.
Surveying 860 full-time workers and interviewing 15 employees, Tan found that 1 in 5 felt “vacation guilt”, worrying they’d be judged or seen as less committed.
Some even avoided sharing vacation plans or apologized for taking time off.
This adds to a 2024 Pew survey showing nearly half of
U.S. workers don’t use all their PTO. Tan says employers need to create supportive cultures that encourage employees to use their time off without fear of repercussions, so PTO can truly serve its purpose.

Salt-N-Pepa are suing Universal Music Group (UMG) to regain ownership of their music catalog, including hits like “Push It” and “Shoop.” The group claims UMG removed their songs from streaming platforms in retaliation for trying to reclaim their masters under the Copyright Act of 1976. Cheryl “Salt” James and Sandra “Pepa” Denton, the two rappers, argue that UMG is intentionally blocking their rights and damaging the value of their music.
As Salt-N-Pepa prepare for their induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, they’re also fighting for ownership of their legacy. Their legal team says UMG is punishing them for asserting their rights, reflecting a bigger battle artists face against labels that profit from their work without giving them control. The group is seeking damages and aims to highlight issues of fairness, legacy, and artist ownership.

The Ponder Independent School District in Denton County is the latest North Texas district to adopt a four-day school week, joining five other Texas districts: Anna, Hillsboro, Mineral Wells, Montague, and Terrell ISDs, according to Fox 4.

The change will take effect in the 2025-2026 school year.

To compensate for the reduced number of school days, the district will extend the school day by 30 minutes to maintain instructional time.

Ponder ISD hopes the new schedule will enhance teacher retention and provide a better work-life balance for both students and staff.

President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Tuesday aimed at cutting federal support for gender transitions for individuals under 19, marking his latest effort to roll back protections for transgender people.
The order states that the U.S. government will not
“fund, sponsor, promote, assist, or support” gender transitions for minors and calls for strict enforcement of laws limiting such procedures. It directs federally-run insurance programs, including TRICARE for military families and Medicaid, to exclude coverage for gender-affirming care and instructs the Department of Justice to pursue litigation and legislation opposing the practice.
Medicaid programs in some states currently cover gender-affirming care, but the order suggests that federal funding for these services could be eliminated.
It also targets hospitals and universities receiving federal funding that provide such care.
