A happy detour

We weren’t supposed to end up in the Cairngorms, but we’re glad the storm last weekend forced us to change our plans

So, rather than heading to the wild coast of Skye, we headed on a roadtrip in our campervan to the wilds of the Cairngorms National Park 🍂🍁

And what a time to be here - the leaves and hills are golden, the air fresh and the evenings cosy

The autumn in the Cairngorms may just have become our favourite time to visit this incredible national park 👌

Five years, one scruffy dog, two vans, 14 countries, 20 Scottish Islands, a few too many breakdowns, and zero regrets.

Six years ago, we probably wouldn’t have believed you if you said we’d trade our London city life for a metal box on wheels and five years of travelling and working around the UK and Europe. But honestly? We’re so, so glad we took that leap into the unknown.

Over this half-decade we’ve met new friends, deepened our appreciation for the natural world, refocused our careers, and learned to live comfortably with less.

Most importantly, we’ve discovered what truly makes us happy.

We don’t know what the next five years will look like, but we do know that they will be filled with adventure.

There have been far too many adventures to fit into a 20 page carousel, but swipe through for a little glimpse of the journey - and thanks for following along with our travels ✌️

Top tier park-up 👌🏻

So glad we came across this park-up while scrolling through the app

Provided by naturescot in return for a £10 donation, Knockan Crag Nature Reserve has incredible views across the rocky valley carved by ancient glaciers, as well as a view filled walk which takes you to an even higher viewpoint.

We managed to get here just as the sun was setting - and enjoyed an incredible evening watching the sun set behind the peaks in the distance.

Perfection 🤌

One of those views 😍

One of our favourite hikes in a long while. Graded as ‘hard’ on All Trails, the route to here takes you on a steep but I incredibly scenic path, which winds its way around the jagged peaks of Stac Pollaidh.

We had some unexpected blue skies and took a long break at the top to admire the view!

Stac Polaidh, Scottish Highlands 📍

Errr - yes please 🙋‍♂️🙋🏻‍♀️

Our first night on Bute was spent by the sea and beach at Ettrick Bay. It was a super quiet night and a peaceful spot to catch the last of the summer sun ☀️

Back to Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

After a few months of being stationary down south we’re now back beyond the border to catch the last days of summer, ready for a cosy autumn of adventures in the forests, mountains, lochs and beaches of Scotland 🚐❤️

This was our first spot on the West Coast, taking advantage of the always useful Stay the Night Scheme run by Forestry Scotland.

Lochside views, towering trees, birdsong and fast internet. What more could we need!

📍Loch Eck, Argyll and Bute

Five years of Frank 🎉

Here’s to plenty more years of adventure with this scruffy, ball chasing, beach digging, treat seeking little van dog 💙

Swipe for some very adorable photos of Frank as a puppy and doing his favourite things (aka chasing balls on beaches)

What a good boy!

Happiest by the sea 🚐🌊

We’ve been doing this VanLife thing for a while now (Five years in a few months!), and sometimes we take what we get to do for granted.

But every time we find a spot like this, right by the sea, this changes! There’s something so profoundly life-giving about having the ocean as your backyard, feeling the salty breeze, and watching the tides come and go.

Orkney has a ton of amazing wildlife and history, but it’s beaches are pretty beautiful too 👌

Hiking to the old man of Hoy 🥾

One of the UK’s highest sea stacks, the Old Man of Hoy towers 137 metres into the sky above crashing seas below.

The hike to get here is a scenic 3-hour return trip up and along the cliff tops from the park-up in Rackwick Bay, with plenty of time to bird watch and get a little bit of vertigo if you dare look over the edge of the cliffs 😅

Apparently the sea-stack is famous amongst climbers, maybe next time…

Cheers to for the family pic 📸!

Cullen 🚐⛺️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

With the heat finally making its way up to this part of Scotland, we headed to the seaside town of Cullen for the weekend.

There’s a cheap motorhome aire here, right by the seafront, with easy access to the harbour, its big beaches and a scenic coast path with epic views 👌🏻

We caught some beautiful sunsets, fell asleep to the sounds of the sea, and caught an otter catching its dinner nearby.

A perfect weekend👌

A pretty spectacular birthday hike 🍻

This hike has been on the bucket list for a while, so to celebrate my birthday I rounded up a gang of friends and headed on a two-day hike to the Old Forge in Inverie.

The hike was challenging, had numerous water crossings made worse by the heavy rain on day one. But that couldn’t wipe the smiles off our faces as we enjoyed a proper adventure through the Knoydart peninsula - known to be some of the most remote terrain in Scotland and the UK.

Thanks to Jo, , Liam and .whittaker who agreed to join me on this epic hike. What an adventure!
