Four weeks ago on April 1st, I released this song called 'Why Should I Try'. The song was initially brought to me by my good friend George Leger III. It was a chord progression with a very cool vibe, organ, kit, bass and electric rhythm. I put down a guitar lick, wrote the lyrics and hopefully told a story.
George worked his magic and voila!
It's definitely a dark take and certainly very angsty. I wasn't sure if radio would want to play it. Especially because my stuff doesn't sound this angry! Haha! I am not an angry person! Really!
I had been watching a Netflix series (Lucifer), due to learning about how to prepare music for film/TV through my friend and music educator Michèle Vice-Maslin and started researching various shows. I landed on Lucifer because I watched an interview with a music supervisor who mentioned the show among several others.
I watched bits of all of them and this one show entertained me - it was ironic, funny, weird, informative, with good writing, a good soundtrack and decent acting/characters, etc. AND it was fantasy. A good Dramedy.
Long story short, I wrote this song about the main character experiencing betrayal.
I'm happy to report the song is now being played on radio from coast to coast on CHSR FM Official Fredericton (NB), CJSF 90.1 FM - SFU Burnaby Burnaby (BC), Blues and Roots Radio Mississauga (ON), CHRW-FM London (ON), 93.1 CFIS-FM Prince George (BC), The Buzzer Podcast Toronto (ON), CKUW 95.9 FM Winnipeg (MB), Radio Regent Toronto (ON), CHLT-FM Nanaimo (BC), CJLX-FM(2) Belleville (ON), The Northern Beat - CKLU 96.7 FM Sudbury (ON), CFMH-FM Saint John (NB), Popcanradio.ca Kingston (ON) and several others around the world. But I'm truly happy to see Canadian support for this song. Big HUGE THANKS to Paul Corby (Corby's Orbit), Steve and Anne Connor and all the folks at Blues and Roots Radio, Fred Smith at Hard Core Country Radio Western fm 94.9 CHRW Radio(for the Premiere!) and Saturday Morning with HowieZowie at CHRW, Shay Drinkwalter at The Buzzer, and everyone who is giving this song some life.
Also, I would like to acknowledge funding support from the Ontario Arts Council, an agency of the Government of Ontario, that supported the writing of this song.
I am truly blessed. xo
