Yorkshire Air Museum at Elvington will be holding a special Props Day on Saturday October 25th. It will see some of the museum’s propeller driven aircraft conducting engine runs before they head into the hangar for winter.
The star of the show will be the Douglas Dakota, an icon of D-day and other campaigns. The Dak has had its two engines overhauled this summer. Other aircraft taking part in Props Day will be the de Havilland Devon, the Royal Aircraft Factory SE5 biplane and the Eastchurch Kitten - a replica of a World War One prototype naval aircraft.
Yorkshire Air Museum Communications Manager Jerry Ibbotson said: ‘Our prop aircraft are a great sight to see, as well as making a lovely noise! There’s something special about seeing them firing up their engines and spinning their blades – particularly the Dakota, which is such a symbolic aircraft. It’s had a lot of engine work done this year and we’re hoping people will come to see the final engine run of 2025.’
There will be two sets of engine runs on the day – morning and afternoon. It is a normal admission day at the Yorkshire Air Museum; no special tickets are required.

Bristol Blenheim - ONLY £9.99!

The Bristol Blenheim was one of the most important Royal Air Force combat aircraft of the crucial, early years of World War Two.

Not only did it represent the backbone of the light bomber force, but it also served as a night fighter during the Battle of Britain, undertook anti-shipping strikes and went on to serve with every RAF command in every theatre of the war.

Blenheim's later played an important, if unsung role, as a crew trainer.

This all-new publication from the publishers of FlyPast and Aeroplane magazines covers every variant of the aircraft in detail, the squadrons that flew them and operations flown, foreign users and the airframes that have survived today.

The Commemorative Air Force’s Airbase Georgia Wing is making good progress on its restoration of Boeing N2S-2 Stearman BuNo 03531. The project, which began in 2019, will see the World War Two biplane fly again in a classic yellow paint scheme. The type was dubbed ‘Yellow Peril’ during the war but represented a reliable route into aviation for numerous cadets.
