Article: Coronavirus and its threat to Tokyo Olympics 2020

Writing about this has let me research and be more knowledgeable on the current situation. Therefore, I can better understand what is going on in the world.

One important thing that I have learned throughout this writing process that I want to share with the student body is the different ways that we can use to prevent the spread of this new virus and protect ourselves too

FACES 2.10

Article: The Death of Kobe Bryant
Written by: Kian Chan (Y10)

Writing about Kobe has really helped me better understand the world, as it helped me see how the world reacts and changes after such a tragic event. From that, I can also see how big of a connection many famous stars (mainly NBA), where it changes my perspective and thoughts on the current news of the NBA.

"Grieving as a society" is also a big lesson I better understand from the world after the tragic news, as I personally experience numerous athletes and professionals honor and respect Kobe, witnessing all tears left behind our community, and how our community supports and respects one another. A psychologist once wrote, "Sometimes we forget that grief is part of the human experience." This saying is now lucid and should be shared with the student body, since this experience is part of every individual, and we all do further develop from this.

FACES 2.9
Article: India's Citizenship Law

Written by: Esther Lynch (Y13)

I enjoyed writing this article because I was able to do deep research into what exactly is and was happening in India at the time. This allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of current events and different religious politics within the country, which contributes to building my general knowledge. Writing for XH is always informative and fun.

FACES 2.8

Article: The fall of Harvey Weinstein
Written by: Tanya Wan (Y9)
Illustration by: Hyning Gan (Y11) and Jessica Hu (Y12)

Writing about Harvey Weinstein's long-overdue downfall has taught me a great deal about sexual abuse in society, as well as the way sexual predators escape being held accountable for their actions through intimidation and power. I have also learned the importance of speaking up with the facts to make an impact by removing the stigma surrounding sexual abuse, the way the eminent journalists Jodi Kantor, Megan Twohey and Ronan Farrow did.
I want to emphasize the significance of showing more than one side to a story for the sake of avoiding coming off as biased or narrow-minded. Though bias is naturally inevitable when it comes to sensitive, serious topics like sexual assault, it is important to first present the situation as honestly as possible to readers before offering a personal opinion.
