The world of rock has lost one of its loudest voices.
Ozzy Osbourne, the iconic frontman of Black Sabbath and a pioneer of heavy metal, has passed away at the age of 76.
Despite his long battle with Parkinson’s disease and other health complications, Ozzy remained a fighter till the very end. Just weeks before his death, he made a powerful return to the stage on July 5, reuniting with his original Black Sabbath bandmates in a moving farewell concert titled Back to the Beginning.
In a somber statement, the Osbourne family shared, “It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time.”
While the exact cause of death was not disclosed, Ozzy’s declining health had been known publicly, including his struggle with a rare form of Parkinson’s and multiple spinal surgeries. Yet, his final performance was a testament to his enduring spirit. “I've been laid up for six years, and you've got no idea how I feel,” he told the crowd that night, closing with, “Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
From belting out metal anthems like “Iron Man,” “Paranoid,” and “War Pigs,” to redefining the genre itself, Ozzy’s voice and persona carved an everlasting mark in music history. His accolades include inductions into both the UK Music Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame—both with Black Sabbath and as a solo artist—along with Grammy wins, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and more.
Osbourne is survived by his wife Sharon, their children Aimee, Kelly, and Jack, and his two elder children, Jessica and Louis, from his first marriage.
A legend has left the stage, but his echo will never fade.
