Yet another past SNS guest has sadly died, the multi talented Frederick Forsyth, known mainly for his incredibly successful thriller writing career, although previous to that was a BBC correspondent, a member of MI6 and even (I kid you not) a bullfighter. I met him after he wrote a lament for Remembrance Day which was set to music & sung by Royal Opera House soprano, Melissa Alder. A lovely afternoon was spent with them both at his home in Buckinghamshire in 2016, and we ended the chat by swapping gifts - me receiving a signed copy of his autobiography, and Forsyth a serviceable bottle of champas, which he seemed most chuffed with.
I was so glad he was around long enough to see the incredible reimagining of his seminal classic, Day of the Jackel, starring Eddie Redmayne, which is currently in production for a second season.
RIP Frederick Forsyth CBE 😢
