New double out on all the streaming things today. “Queen of the Lean Machine” and “Pictures of Jean”. Both mixed n mastered by .
PoJ was recently realized by myself as a single, but the newer release has an added Rhodes keyboard track, and I feel Nick’s mixing in general is way more competent and effective than my own.
I’m very happy with how quickly these songs came together and turned out. Kind of equally happy to also be done with them and released into the universe.
They’re both about my grandma and my memories of her specifically as a youngin but also more recent reflections on my general absence and distance from the nuclear family as an adult. I was a very awkward and introverted kid, sometimes bluffing as more of an extrovert than I could ever really hope to sustain. My grandma Jean was incredibly kind and generous towards most people, especially us grandkids. It was almost alien to me as a kid and teenager.
QotLM is a feral 60’s pop song. An unhinged beach boys tribute I guess.
PoJ is a slow ballad, more pensive and meandering.
Both songs written Oct 2024, finalized over a few months.
