'Nothing was overly planned. In those days, we had the luxury of time, but our collaborations were spontaneous and personal, defined by things that provoked emotions in us.'

We are saddened to hear of the passing of Melanie Ward, a true visionary. We had the honour to include Melanie’s reflections on her many collaborations with Nigel Shafran, including Lost in Space and Teenage Precinct Shoppers in THE WELL, published 2022. Melanie left an indelible mark on British fashion culture, and her ‘90s collaborations with Shafran infuse his book with a sense of style and sincerity.

Photographs featured from LOST IN SPACE, The Face, Golders Green, 1989 and TEENAGE PRECINT SHOPPERS, i-D 1991 – both included in THE WELL, Nigel Shafran.
