Mahur's Pride: Mjangblee Kemprai Bags University Gold Medal in MA English, Inspires Youth of Dima Hasao

In a moment of jubilation for the hills of Dima Hasao, Miss Mjangblee Kemprai, the talented daughter of Babul Kemprai and Smt. Joymila Bodo from Daudung Village in Mahur has been honored with the prestigious University Gold Medal from the Department of English, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Assam Don Bosco University. This accolade recognizes her exceptional achievement of securing the highest Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 9.44 in the Master of Arts (English) programme.

The SIT, including senior officers such as Smti Rosie Kalita, APS, SSP (CM Vigilance), who will serve as the Chief Investigating Officer, will probe CID PS Case No. 18/2025. Manipur’s Ningthoujam Bidyapati Devi 1st Woman from State to Scale Mount Everest

Imphal, Sept 24: Making history for Manipur and the entire Northeast, Ningthoujam Bidyapati Devi successfully scaled Mount Everest in 2013 as part of the First North East India Mount Everest Expedition. She is the first woman mountaineer from Manipur to conquer the world’s highest peak, standing at 29,029 feet.

Bidyapati, daughter of Kokngang and Bormani from Mongjam Maning Leikai under Heingang Police Station, reached the summit at 9.30 am (IST) on that day. With this achievement, she became the second mountaineer from Manipur to scale Everest, following Nongmaithem Suresh who reached the peak in 2010.

The expedition, flagged off from the historic Kangla by Manipur Governor Gurbachan Jagat on February 25, 2013, and later by President of India Pranab Mukherjee at Rashtrapati Bhavan on March 20, 2013, marked a proud moment for the entire region.

Three climbers from the team reached the summit on that day. Anand Gurung from Sikkim was the first, summiting at 7.35 am, followed by Nima Lama from Arunachal Pradesh at 8.30 am, and finally Bidyapati Devi at 9.30 am.

With this, the Northeast has firmly registered its place in the world of mountaineering, joining the league of the finest climbers across the globe.

Tribute to the Heartthrob of the New Generation, Zubeen Garg, by Bengali Parishad

On Sunday, the Bengali Parishad, Dima Hasao District Committee, organized a heartfelt tribute ceremony in Haflong to honor the untimely demise of the immensely popular singer, actor, and filmmaker, Zubeen Garg, the heartthrob of the new generation. The event took place at the Jagannath Bari premises, attended by members of the Parishad.

Presided over by Rajatkanti Nath, President of the Bengali Parishad’s Dima Hasao District Committee, the tribute included a minute of silence to pray for the eternal peace of the departed soul, floral offerings at Zubeen Garg’s portrait, and the lighting of lamps to express reverence.

Recalling Zubeen Garg’s legacy, Pankajkumar Deb, Vice-President of the Bengali Parishad’s Central Committee and a journalist, remarked, “Today, we are compelled to pay tribute to the portrait of Zubeen Garg, the heartthrob of the new generation, in an unexpected turn of events. His untimely passing has created an irreplaceable void in the music industry, particularly in Assam and the Northeast. Zubeen was truly a people’s artist.” He also noted that the circumstances surrounding Zubeen’s death have sparked a sense of mystery.

Senior journalist and Parishad advisor Anup Kumar Biswas also spoke, expressing disbelief at Zubeen’s sudden departure to the eternal abode. “Though Zubeen is no longer physically among us, he will remain immortal in the hearts of the people of Assam and India,” he said.

In his address, President Rajatkanti Nath highlighted Zubeen’s towering popularity not only in Assam and the Northeast but also in Tollywood. “Zubeen was celebrated and cherished in Bengal as well,” he added.
