I must admit, I'm really pleasantly surprised with how much people have been enjoying the history of the label miniseries. For your viewing pleasure (or horror), Episode 4 just dropped:

You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll be horrified!

After pondering the idea of a video podcast/miniseries chronicling the journey of Rubellan Remasters from enthusiastic start to tragic end, I've gone back and forth with the idea. Going through old emails and preparing a timeline of events, I was reminded of how unbelievably turbulent the last several years had been. It definitely was a horror story driven by passion and determination, until there was nothing left. As many of you know, it's not been a pleasant country drive in the least, and certainly did not have a Hollywood ending. And while I've shared some of the challenges faced, you have no idea how many things were constantly thrown during the process, and the seemingly insane desire to continue throughout... until now.

Not having done something of this nature before, it was a series of stops and starts, scrapping the whole thing and then restarting. Reshooting and re-editing. Like with the label, the miniseries is presented with a DIY homegrown everyman feel, as I have no intention of becoming a full time youtuber. This is about sharing the story in a more pictorial, human way than a simple blog, since it's really the only way get the impact across.

While I had my doubts if this would even be interesting to anyone, I had a number of former buyers preview the first episode to see if they enjoyed it and would like to see me continue. Every viewer said they were engaged and certainly wanted more. So, I've gradually chipped away at a couple more episodes, each approximately an hour, with the anticipation it will take about 10 episodes to complete the story. No idea how often new episodes will be completed and posted, but I expect maybe weekly.

It is chronological so make sure to start with Episode 1.

I was digging through some old documents, emails and files today, as I'm giving serious consideration to putting together a miniseries that I'd post on YouTube going through the history of the label, from the fumbling start, through each release and the challenges and dramas that faced each one, up to the final curtain call.

During my excavation, I found this very short teaser trailer that I put together (in my naive excitement) back in 2017 well before I even had a release out. Can you guess what song intro was altered for the brief soundtrack? I'm not sure if I ever posted it at the time but it brought me back to the start, which was apparently the first days of May 2017.

The website and online store will go offline in April when the current subscription expires. Anything currently listed in the store is still available until then. After the site and store go offline, you will still be able to find remaining inventory at eBay and Discogs. Remaining inventory will also still be available through various online retailers for a while longer until distribution comes to an end. Thank you.

I'm not involved with this release but definitely felt it deserves a little additional promotion. Some know I worked on a singles compilation by the early 80s band The Mood around 2008 for release on Cherry Red. Last year, Sony gave the master tapes to the band members who are re-releasing not only the singles, but (I believe) eventually their full album that was shelved back in 1983 or 1984. They've now opened pre-orders for the new 12-track singles comp, which is available on clear vinyl and CD. Either purchase comes with a high resolution download at 96/24.

This is the first time the material has been re-released from master tapes. It wasn't a secret that even though Sony had the tapes available and ready for me to use back in 2008, I was instructed to master it all from vinyl (no comment). The releases are set for the end of this month and pre-orders can be placed from their website: https://themood.uk/home

For those unfamiliar with the band, they're a bit synthpop with touches of New Romantic. You can check out a couple of their music videos on YouTube. Here's their best-known single, Paris Is One Day Away. The video was remastered for the band in HD from an original copy from Sony's archives:

I just received the last of my LP mothers today via FedEx. I now have all of my original plates, minus one set, for the LPs released on my label. For most labels, they let the manufacturer dispose of these metal parts after they've served their purpose, but for me I wanted to have them as part of my label museum, so to speak. These heavy plates, or 'mothers', are used to create stampers that are placed in the record press to stamp out the final LPs. Some of my earliest LPs are on copper plates, which are direct metal masters cut directly onto the plate. Later titles are silver, which are created from lacquers that are cut and then sent for plating into the jagged, heavy mother. Browse through the photos here to take a little tour of these essential components of LP manufacturing.
