Two episodes in ONE WEEK!? What nonsense is this?!

Film School Fess Ups welcomes Kristen Warner on to discuss her work on plastic representation, MAGIC MIKE XXL, SIDE EFFECTS, and all things Steven Soderbergh.

It was a delight talking to her - this is perhaps the most fun I've had recording an episode.

I've found out that the new ALIEN 4K has HDR10 and HDR10+ (their Dolby Vision alternative)...but unfortunately most players and TVs can't display 10+.

4K UHD is really putting a lukewarm taste in my mouth - first shoddy porting over of extras, then lack of Dolby Vision support on discs that have DV masters, and now a new format war.

Ugh.

Drew Morton (Associate Professor, Texas A&M University-Texarkana) gives his impressions on 4K UHD Blu-Ray and takes a look at the Columbia Noir series on the newly launched Criterion Channel applicati

A State of the Union as we come up on our last episode of 2018 (HOUR OF THE WOLF with Daniel Humphrey in December).

We've done 12 episodes of FILM SCHOOL FESS UPS so far.

About 800 people have listened so far. Of those 12 episodes, 5 featured male guests (1 featured a male guest of color) and 7 featured female guests (2 featured women of color).

A significant number has featured LGBTQ guests.

As for film breakdowns: 2 films covered were foreign language, 4 were made before 1960. We have yet to cover a film by a female director - MIKEY AND NICKY will be our first with Maya Smukler as my guest in January 2019.

Not bad, but I can certainly work on the film ratios a bit more.
