“We were brought up Jewish, but we also celebrated Mom's holidays with her and with her family in Connecticut. We always had an Easter basket. We always wore Easter dresses and bonnets. We had Christmas morning and a Christmas tree. We would go to church because we wouldn't drive down to New London and then not go to mass at the church where my nanny served her whole life! But we're not in church because we're praying to our Lord. We're in church because we're part of the Passero family and they're in church."
