And now for some GOOD news. This is Harris County Deputy Jamie White and his wife, who is a medic with Harris County EMS. As many of you know, Jamie was shot in the face during a traffic stop last Saturday. He has been released from the hospital and is now home, continuing to heal from his wounds. Deputy White, in my opinion, has exemplified the "Warrior mindset". He refused to give up, refused to die and is alive and well. God Speed Jamie White, we're behind you, brother.

Meet Your School Resource Officer

Sr. Cpl. Latisha Geter has been in Law Enforcement 9 years and 3 months having served all of her time with the Sumter County Sheriff's Office starting out in Codes Enforcement.

Geter said she has been around law enforcement for most of her life.

“My late sister-in-law Marjorie Baker Billie was jail administrator for the Newberry County Sheriff's Office working under Sheriff Lee Foster. My cousins, former Sumter County Sheriff’s Office deputy Kelly and officer Davis with the Sumter Police Department along with the Duke brothers who were schoolmates were others whom I watched.”

Geter said she decided to follow in their footsteps.

“It became my desire to follow in their footsteps to protect, serve and be an advocate for the safety of others,” she said. “I have a passion of helping others and I love working with children and youth.”

In her spare time Geter is actively involved in her church and community, mentoring children, coaching, singing, traveling, spending time with family, resting and enjoying life.

In more affluent districts, local property tax revenue makes a big difference for schools. But in rural Sumter County, which is mostly farms and timberland, there isn’t much to tax. It’s also hard to raise rates on what is there.
